I went an bought an 18mm socket, and 3" extension.
I used my torque wrench, 1/2", since it's nice and long.

To get the bolts out from under the jeep, I ended up having to use a pair of vice grips to get them pulled out after they were completely unscrewed but hanging up and not coming out. You have to tug real well, but not so hard that you might bust yourself in the mouth if the pliers slipped.

For the grinding, I went out an bought a full bench grinder. Lesson learned on grinding: give it a good grind on the first go instead of going back and forth to see if you got a fit.

For the installation, my assistant was my wife and she was not too happy holding those heavy rails. So I used a cheat that was posted here on the forum: I taped up and then flipped one of the boxes on its side and placed the rail on that. From underneath, I then used my leg to brace the rail up as I tightened it back up -- and fought with getting the bolt to bite. Took a bit to get each blot to grab and start screwing in.

Torqued to 80.

I then wanted to put on some 3M non-slip tape, but used an off brand instead (since my local hardware store has such a crappy selection, haha).

The outcome: I love it. But not without some pain in the ass factoring.

Bob
Are those ACE sliders? And if so where did you get them from Thx

Just came across an issue my vinyl guy refused to make my hood decal, he said my devil resembles the Natty Boh guy and it would be a copy right infringement. Any ideas where I could get this done?

Visited Quadratec. Visited Metalcloak. Visited Poison Spyder. Visited my online banking. Cursed. Sighed. Got depressed and came here to live vicariously through my fellow Jeepers.

Here are a couple things that make it easier:

1. Simply push down on the washers while loosening the bolts. No vice grips necessary.
2. Use the foam packing blocks to support the rails while installing bolts. That leaves space to reach the bolts.
3. Not sure why you would need non-slip tape since the rails come with a rough, non-slip surface. Have never had a problem, even when wet (I'm assuming these are Ace Rock Sliders).

I have ZERO patience for people that do this. This makes me mad, so I know you are. Hopefully whoever decided they "needed" your navigation is dead in a ditch somewhere by now.

Wheeled yesterday. Of course, no pictures of some of the extremely technical parts of the trail. I can't believe the Rubicon did it basically stock. It was jaw dropping.

Nothing pisses me off worse than scumbags who steal from working people. I fantasize about catching someone trying to break into my jeep. Let's just say, old testament rules will apply.

Added a 2.5" lift and cargo net as someone decided to jump on my roof last night and bust my brand new soft top. Thank god I know someone who works for dodge and is replacing it on warranty also just ordered:

Smaller diameter drive shafts.

37" nitto mud grapplers

And also gonna see when the tires get here if I new lift is needed (thank god I'm only 19 and don't have to ask permission from the wife as she's only a girlfriend haha)

That is some gooey stuff right there. Did you have to winch at any point?

Should have posted this last night when I got home, but was worn out...so today (yesterday), I went off roading for my first time and "baptized" Emma. We had a great time in Tahuya, WA with the Around The Sound Meetup Group;

Even those little mods add up quickly. A $50 here, $250 there and before you know it you could've had a lift. I need my stance and that's my next goal.......lift/wheels/tires. That is about $6k right there

Yeah this is all more a PITA than anything. It was a JVC head unit I put in in Oct n also had windows tinted at same time too. n I was the only one in a stack of 100 + cars at my apt complex ....totally ripped apart dash even the sub frame is broken so ill need a whole new dash now, waiting on insurance inspection.

I did have to winch fairly early on as I dropped into some ruts and was sitting on my diffs. Just winched to the side to get back out and then off we went. There were other sections of the trail that were just chutes of big granite boulders with water running down it. Was completely amazed at how well we crawled up it.

I feel your pain. That's why I'm on a lock it down mod craze. I will never take my hard top off because of these knuckleheads. At least for my current situation that is. I wish I saw who took my tails. Time to invest in a Viper alarm. I have one waiting to install.

Yeah I guess its time to look into alarms ...I'd like one that would alert you through a phone app.? That will wake me up so I can run out with my CZ PO-7. 40 Cal
