Actually, this is not always the case. My wife's JKU is only a little over a month old, and it had a ton of contaminants in the paint which was mostly rail dust. You'll be surprised how much is in the newer vehicles, right off the lot.

I've never had that experience with a new car...

We used to live in Apex!

I definitely think it's worth the trip if you are already on your way. It's got beautiful scenery, couple spots to park for lunch (one by a stream with a fire ring), some water crossings (depending on time of year) and I thought it was a fun ride.

Granted, we are from Florida and have never truly 'mountain' climbed anywhere other than Hurricane Creek. So, someone more experienced may not think its as good as I do.

Mike has been here in January/February and LOVED wheeling it in the snow/ice. He said it was a completely different look than today. He hardly recognized some of the places with all the greenery grown in.

I think he posted a short video in the WNC section here back in late January or early February, if you wanted to take a look at it. Might give you some better insight. His ID is WhiskeyMike.

my jeep is almost 3 years old. There are harder water spots or something on the hood. thought for sure this would get them off.

As long as you can hem the edges or have it hemmed at your local alteration shop, you should be good.
I followed this build thread: DIY Mesh Top (SpiderWeb Shade knockoff) - Write-ups and Reviews - Tennessee Jeeps

Mesh Top - SunGuard Mesh - 48" wide by 84" long: ~$20.00 (Lowes)
Harbor Freight : 2x Bungee Balls pack of 4 $6
Grommet kit 3/8" ID with tool $8 from Harbor freight or home depot
Sewing fee $20
Total: $54

Hope this helps.

LOL, I was getting just over 20mpg on the way down to Austin doing between 70-80 mph and getting almost 21mpg on the way back (lots of construction, kept sleep between 45-70).

Nice! What gears/tires are you running? I'm stock 17" wheels and tires with 3.73 gears.

You put the mount on the wall upside down. Try flipping it over.

Running stock 17" wheels with original tires (just passed 8K miles), 3.73 ratio. I tend to have a light foot on the gas, as my other car is a Prius... :-)

Went out yesterday and broke her in right. Hit a decent trail with the stock rig before the lift and shocks arrive today,I was pretty impressed. Had it one 2 and 3 wheels at times. Wife was a little freaked out, but she will get comfortable with time. Hell, she is already talking about going out again.

So the lift and shocks will be here today and I'll have to drool over it until the weekend. Hopefully will get to do the install Sunday!
