I was trading in a non-Chrysler car that my Jeep dealer had no interest in. It was a 2012 and had 18k miles on it, had it just over a year AND it had a blemish from a minor fender rub. I contacted my original dealer and asked them if they'd buy my car back. They wanted it and offered me $2k more than I owed on it (even knowing about the fender blem) and I worked it so that I would trade in my car toward my Jeep at the Jeep dealer and then have the Jeep dealer wholesale my car to my original dealer for the agreed upon trade price. I got my >$2k trade allowance, the tax benefit of only paying tax on the difference between my trade and the new Jeep, AND 2% below invoice on the Jeep. I was pretty happy with my creativity and ability to get the dealers to work this out. I may not have gotten 5% below invoice like some I'm reading here, but I turned an almost impossible situation into a workable deal with a little bit of equity in my trade.
Very good point, but if you do sell out right, bring the buyer to the dealership and they will do a courtesy trade. Handle all the paperwork for the sale, and you get credit on the taxes. That's what I did, and at 9.5% taxes, I needed all the help I could get

Well, when I purchased my 2013 Rubicon back in Oct of last year, the Dealer told me that their isn't any Discounts available. My MSRP WAS $37,250.00 with tax, lic, and all of the other charges that they like to add, like Doc fee's, my out the door price was $42,600.00 I think that they really took in too me.

I decided to call the Dealer that sold me my Rubicon. I guess that I lucked out, because their General Manager was in and I actually got to talk with him. I explained my dis-satisfaction over the pricing, verses what everybody else is paying across the country. He explained to me that their Dealership is one of the largest and nicest in the nation. He said where else can you go and set in the waiting room while getting service and watch a 70 inch LED Television eat donuts served with a drink of you choice. Also explained to me was the fact, that their Sales Staff are the most highly compensated in the Phoenix area, but are also the most knowledgeable. So what his explanation was is that somebody has to pay for all of that great service and that they need to make a profit to stay in business and continue to be number one. I told him that was all understandable, but that I still feel like I paid way to much for my Rubicon. I also mentioned the Better Business to him, and his response was that they receive a lot of complaint's, but that I should not waste my time, because nothing ever is resolved through complaining.
He made me the follow offer to keep me as a customer. A free oil change, with filter, a tire rotation and a wash job, at no cost to me. They also have a 2012 Rubicon that had the cylinder head problem while a customer was road testing it before purchasing it. So the Dealer replaced the Cylinder head. He said If I needed a second Rubicon in the family, that he would offer the 2012 repaired engine Rubicon to me at $1,500.00 off of MSRP, which I had better buy it before somebody else got that great deal.
I passed on the 2012, because I don't need a second Rubicon with a repaired engine.
He seemed very sincere about trying to make me happy so I will get the free oil change. He also offered me a special deal, that for every customer that I send to him, that purchases a new vehicle, then I will receive a $50.00 credit for either parts or service. Now I think that is a pretty good offer!

WOW, Old Dogger, boy did they ever rape you and hung you out to dry.
That pricing is horrible. That was like taking $6,000 dollars and throwing it out the window.
I really do feel bad, that they took advantage of you the way that they did. And then to try to reconcile with you for a free oil change, washjob and tire rotation is just down right insulting!

I'm just hoping that Old Dogger was being sarcastic. The owner offered him basically an $80 package to make up for the thousands he charged him in the deal. I would have expected them to offer a few free oil changes at least. But it just shows that there are good dealers and then this dealer. But it comes down to being an educated buyer and being happy with the deal too. If I had too, I would probably pay MSRP for a jeep if I had no choice. And would feel it was worth it every time I got behind the wheel!

Yes, I am happy with my new Rubicon every time that I get behind the wheel. I know now that I paid way to much for it, but I am old and can't take the money with me so I guess that I am helping out the poor economy that we all are faced with. I hope that the sales person made a nice large commission off of me and that he will take his family on a great vacation at my expense. Good for him!

Hi All! A buddy of mine who frequents another Jeep forum worked out a deal with a dealer in Northern VA to buy a bunch of '14 Grand Cherokees at 7% under invoice. He got the dealer to agree to extend this to 13" Wranglers, as he knew I was in the market. I m waiting to get more details, but my understanding at this point is that anyone who wants in on this is welcome. I am happy to post more when I get the deets, if there's interest.

On a multiple buy I don't believe that is any big deal. Maybe they cost more in the east. In Colorado I got 9% off in Nov for 2013.

There is a significant difference between 9% off and 7% below invoice. For example, Rubie MSRP $36,330-9%=$33,060.30
Invoice is $34,036 - 7% = $31,653.48

I'm just curious, do you in the USA have to deal with sales taxes of any kind?

I'm always surprised that your prices are most of the time lower than us.

But here in Quebec, it gets even worst as we have to add another 15% of sales taxes once we've dealt the final price...

do we have to pay taxes in the U.S. ? ....

here in Jersey the rate is 7%...

now to you that probably sounds low to you..

but consider this..i pay about $7,000 a year in property tax on a house that the bank just told me is worth $275,000 ..sitting on a 90x140 lot

if you wanna know a quick and dirty way to get the "invoice" price of the Jeep...roughly +/-...take the MSRP and multiply it by 93%.... you should definatley get it for at least that cheap..probably $500-$1000 less...

I'd say $30,500 is pretty good...$30,000 would be Good...

2013 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited Rubicon - Commando Green

I have attached the window sticker so you could see the options I chose when I ordered it January 12th 2013. It arrived at the dealership on February 15th.

The windows sticker is $39,055 MSRP.
Dealer Invoice is $36,633
The price I paid was $35,366

The deal I was able to negotiate works out to 9.4% below MSRP. I probably could have done a little better but I am happy about this deal.

According to TrueCar.com (which I highly recommend) the average person is paying $37,017 for this vehicle...

Have any of you guys had luck using Truecar? From my experience it is just a gimmick to suck people into the dealership. They say they don't have the specific car you optioned out but can give you another but it is more expensive etc etc.

I sort of felt the same way when we were shopping. The salesman told us that Trucar and the Affiliate Rewards programs were the same discount. They weren't. We got our discount through Affiliate Rewards.

Ya I was going to sign up for the Tread Lightly affiliate program but unfortunately I can't wait 30 days before purchasing a car. Need to get something in the next 2 weeks which I know doesn't give me as much leeway for negotiation but what can you do.

My '13 True Blue Sahara came pretty loaded. UConnect, Sirius radio, HDD, CD, DVD, automatic transmission, tow package, matching 3-piece hard top, soft top, heated seat, leather interior, extra storage capacity in the hard drive of the radio. The sticker price was $41,000.00 and change. After the trade in and rebates it ended up being around $35,000. Some of the add ons I didn't need or want, but it was what they had on the lot with what I really wanted. As I looked online for a Wrangler no one really had what I wanted. And as others have said, the dealers don't like the idea of ordering something when they have so many to sell! But I love what I have!!

Just mention that you KNOW you can get at least 1% below invoice by waiting and joining Tread Lightly, but what percentage below invoice can they give you to encourage you to purchase sooner. I called a dealer and they gave me 3% below invoice over the phone.

I would up finding a loaded Rubicon that had been on the dealer's lot for too long and got it for 34,909, which was 9% below invoice (you do the math on what invoice was). It's the dark red, which I understand isn't a very popular color in SoCal (I wanted white), but at that price I learned to like it!
