Want simple swap out - would love to be able to watch DVD's, if no external antenna maybe GPS - double DIN of course.
Not sure if their is an "audio in" jack anywhere other than the 130 head unit so if not located in the armrest compartment - I'd need one on the head unit I guess.
I replaced mine with a joying android headunit. They have a model specific for the Wrangler. Allows you to run all the android play store. There is a thread on the unit with a number of people who have make the transition and their experience
You have like 5 options that most people do. The 430, Joying, Sony, Pioneer, Kenwwod. I would say Pioneer and Kenwood are the most popular upgrades. All are within a few hundred bucks of each other. Kenwood and Pioneer have "upgraded" modles with more features and larger price tags.
Beyond that you get into the crazy $$ Alpine units and custom headunits.
It all depends on what you want and need. My review of the Sony is below.
I went with the 430 (non-nav) since I wanted to ensure that I wouldn't have any issues with the wheel controls. It was simple plug and play and was able to quickly add a backup camera, which was the main reason why I went with a touch screen.
Looking back on it I sort of wish I had gotten an aftermarket option, but eh, the 430 isn't that horrible.
I was able too, but it took a lot of tries to do so. Eventually I had to go to the support page and there is a link for unresolved issues. I guess the issue went to some higher tier customer support. I received a call from them one day and she switched it over right there. Just keep trying and you'll get it.
Replaced my 730 RER with a Pioneer AVH-X2700BS. Also did the tweeter, speaker and sub mod. I was jamming to The Who waiting for my son last night (hard top windows closed) and he said it was loud enough from the outside to know what song was playing. Very satisfied.
I originally had the oem alpine upgrade. When I upgraded to a 6200nex, I wasn't able to fade back/forth. To be honest, I was very content with the oem alpine speakers until they started distorting at higher volumes once I added the 6200.
I added Morel Maximo's 6.5 component system up front and Morel Maximo 6.5 coax for rear fills. I also added a logic amp which can support the the maximos and then some. Rear sub is stock. The Morel Maximo's are designed for oem systems/HU upgrades due to its high sensitivity (I believe 91) but they open up once amped to their rms range.
With the 4200, is the Bluetooth/uconnect/steering wheel controls plug and play as well? Would I need to buy a different harness or something? Thats the biggest reason I've kept my 130S so far.
Has anyone swapped in a single DIN? I use my phone for nav and whatnot, but would like quality music compared to the 130. Seems you can get that for less $$ if you go single DIN.
If you don't want a screen, you may want to check out some of the screen-less double DIN options like the Pioneer FH-X520UI. It should look a little more stock and finished than those Metra adapters that leave you a useless cd pocket.
sorry for the slight threadjack, but does anyone have a suggestion for a simple upgrade from the 130N that allows for bluetooth capability or even just has a usb input?
I don't want a big screen display or gps or any of that, just want to upgrade from having to fiddle with my aux cord all the time when playing music from phone.
For you owners who have the stock Alpine premium system. Did you lose any features when you replaced the HU?
