What does JK mean?

I know....stupid question, but I just got my Wrangler.....and don't see anything on the paperwork that says JK. I can only assume my Jeep falls into this category cuz its a 2010. Thanks...

JEEP KING!

Welcome Aboard, Shipmate!

CONGRATS on your New Vessel!

The Jeep Wrangler Models are CJ/YJ/TJ, with the latest model being the JK from 2007 to current. The Model Codes don't stand for anything in particular, but it was voted on by JK Owners a couple of months back, and Jeep King won the vote! Hope this helps!

Here's a little light reading for you, showing the Jeep History. At the bottom of the page, you'll find the Jeep Timeline.

Jeep History (Link)

ENJOY!

Cheers!

It has no real meaning other than being the Jeep model designation. It is the third since the Wrangler came into being. (TJ and YJ before that). Before the Wrangler there was the CJ, which stood for civilian jeep.

Try the big blue button that says, "New Thread."

I used to think it stood for "just Kidding" but I have since found the true designation, its "Jack Keeper".

An article in Automotive Consumer Guide, quoting the brand manager:

When these dedicated owners gather to discuss their rides, the talk is not so much about Wranglers, but about CJs, TJs, and, soon JKs. Those are the corporate engineering codes identifying the various generations of Jeep's small, two-door, open-top 4x4s--the quintessential Jeeps. The World War II versions were the Model MJ, for Military Jeep, and were built by Willys-Overland Motors and Ford Motor Company. After the war, Willys continued production based on the MJ. It called these the CJ, for Civilian Jeep.
Gaining a numeral suffix with each design update, the CJ series sustained through ownership under Kaiser, from 1953, and then American Motors Corporation, starting in 1970. Heavily modified examples of AMC's CJ-5, CJ6, and CJ-7 models can be found today on Jeep trails everywhere.
In 1987, AMC replaced the CJ series with the Wrangler. Identified by its square headlamps, it was more street-friendly than the CJs and designed to appeal to a wider audience. But it was less-adept for off-road use. Hard-core Jeepers said its code name, YJ, stood for "Yuppie Jeep."
Chrysler Corporation bought AMC that same year, and took the lessons learned from the YJ to create the next-generation Wrangler, code named TJ. Introduced for 1997, it revived the classic round headlamps and was an advance both in on-road drivability and off-road prowess. No mocking nicknames for this one.
Officially, YJ and TJ were simply internal engineering codes; they were not abbreviations or initials. When it came time for the next-generation Wrangler that would become the 2007 model, Chrysler's engineering-series code said it should be the TK.
But there was a problem.
"There wasn't a 'J' in it," Kevin Metz, Wrangler brand manager said. The Jeep crew tossed around various alternatives, and came up with JK. "It actually was very arbitrary," Metz said. Beyond the letter J linking it to "Jeep," JK doesn't officially have a meaning, Metz said. "If nothing else," he said, "I guess I like to think it stands for 'Jeep King.'"

X and sport refer to the same model but they are different years. Every couple years they switch from calling the first/base model x and sport.

You either saw a tj unlimited which is just longer or someone just put the unlimited sticker on their jk

The original jeep was built fir the military. When they stater building civilian jeeps the model was given CJ designation. So CJ = Civilian Jeep

I do not know what the Y, T, or K are abbreviations of.

It's still a JK. The Unlimited you see designates that it is a 4dr. All 4dr.'s are Unlimited whether or not they are the old X designation up to the Rubicon. The X, or X Unlimited, is the old base model (entry level). The X designation has been discontinued. The "new" base model is the Sport, or Sport Unlimited. You actually have more standard options on the base Sport than the old X model.

That would be the LJ, a 2-door, longer wheelbase version of the TJ, model years '04-'06.
