What Exhaust are You Running (Looking to Buy)

I am looking to at buying a cat back exhaust for my Jeep. I have went on Youtube and various other sites to get an idea of what systems sound like. I am looking at Magnaflow, Borla, Flowmaster, or maybe Gibson. I am not wanting one to sound like a fart pipe or an import, so is there any of these I should stay away from? I like the price of the Gibson system, but you also get what you pay for.

Just looking for some thoughts and ideas about what you guys are running.

If you have a sound clip of yours let me know.

Thanks.

New Owner..... you are just going wild, aren't you? I got stock exhaust and certainly staying with stock. Not sure what you think the JK is lacking, but exhaust sound from a glass pack with a 200 RPM idle is not exactly what I think a Jeep is meant for......I got over intimidating people at the traffic lights back about 15 years ago.

For me, even a deep throaty Dodge Cummins growl is just not the sound I want to hear from my Jeep.....I mean it is a Jeep.....Am I missing something?

I'd like a bit more of a growl, the stock exhaust just doesn't cut it for me. Take a look at the Pace Setter @ JCWhitney.com, it's the best price out there and the reviews are great.

I dunno man, I have been searching around for a while, as I am in the market as well. I have heard many good things about BANKS Monster cat-backs. Anyone else have input on those?

Like the new JK BTW?

not sure these engines are able to "growl". They work so hard it might just make it sound like a bunch of noise for no reason.

This is what i am going to do with my jeep. i am just going to take it into an exhaust shop and tell them i want to lose this big muffler and i want something smaller and deeper in sound. This is what i did with my last car and it came out amazing. These guys to exhaust all day long they will know what will make ur jeep sound mean and what will make it sound like a fart cannon. Just my 2 cents hope it works.

From what I've seen and heard, the catbacks are a waste. The stock midpipe is already darn-near free-flowing, and the ONLY flow restriction after the cat is the muffler.
To avoid sounding like a fart can, you need SOME backpressure. It also helps torque production via scavenging. Leave the exhaust alone, and weld in a Flowmaster 40 next to the EVAP canister if you want a bit more power and sound. Spending more $ just moves your power peaks up, and reduces your bottom end power, which is exactly what you DON'T want in a truck. Spend less, get more Go with just a muffler and be happy- Mark W.

I love my Jeep, at least when I can pry my wife out of it so I can drive it. With that said, I do not like having what everybody in the brother has. For me to leave a vehicle stock for more than a month is rare. I am not looking to be and I do not want to be obnoxiously loud...I have my Mustang for that , I am just looking for nice sounding exhaust and maybe a little increase in pwr/trq. Before I start modding though, I like to lay out the full plan for the rig and build / buy in that direction. I refuse to be like some who spend a ton of money and time on their project, only to be done and it's not set up right for what they want to do.

I will check out the Pacesetter and BANKS and see if I can find some sound clips.

Did you mount it in the stock location? Any RPM give you the "droning" effect?

Thanks.

Its mounted where the stock was but it is tucked up underneath. No droning. Best sound is about 2000 RPM.

I have a CoolTech exhaust....It's a MagnaFlow muffler that's relocated under & behind the driver's seat...Not too loud at idle & cruising speed, but noticeable enough to know it's an aftermarket exhaust...Main reason for purcashing it was to relocate it out of harms way...

See that little black box next to the Muffler? Its your Evap Canister. It has a habit of getting munched and removed by objects, such as rocks. That Muffler right next to it, also stands a great chance of getting damaged and or removed by such rocks. I personally would rather have the Muffler in the back, where its out of the way. But that's just my choice of location.
