What sort of floor jack and jack stands do y'all use? I want to be able to do some of my own work on this JKU of mine, but have an aversion to having it fall on me. Funny thing, that. So, what do you use to prevent that in your own garage?
I use an older Hein-Werner 4 ton floor jack and four 12 ton Harbor Freight jack stands. Don't skimp when it comes to these items. Your life could depend on it. You can find solid used quality floor jacks on Craigslist if you're patient.
Great advice. I go a little farther with safety. After I set the Jeep on jack stands and remove the wheels I slide them under the Jeep. I also don't completely remove the floor jack.
2 floor jacks from Costco - 3 1/2 ton Arcans and two 3 ton Torin jack stands and two 2 ton torin jack stands. Overkill, maybe, but I'd rather be fully equipped than not.
Sweet, thanks for the feedback y'all! I ended up picking up a 4 ton jack and 4 12-ton jack stands from Harbor Freight. Tried to get the jack from Advance, Auto Zone, and O'Reilly, but nobody had a 4+ ton in stock. JKJP, good call on throwing the tires underneath too, I'll definitely be doing that!
Jack stands are the best. As a teenager I used to work under my Chevelle with nothing but a bumper jack supporting it. Sheesh that was a stupid thing to do!
