What should I dip first?

I'm intrigued by Plasti Dip. I'd like to give it a shot, but I don't know what I'd coat. Give me some ideas.

Here are some exclusions:

My wheels are already black (MB Razors)
I removed the Jeep emblem from the grill
The whole grill is too big of a project for my first dipping project

Given those parameters, what ideas do you have?

That's an interesting suggestion. I'm at stock height with the factory air dam in place, so it wouldn't be very visible. Whatever I decide to do will be black, though. I have a commando green Jeep, so I'm not really looking to add color.

Will it work on the A/C vent rings or the passenger side dash grab handle? Would it be too thick for those applications?

Some members here have used it to do the trim rings around the vents. I dipped my antenna black as I have a Commando Green as well and chrome/shiny stuff just doesn't work for me. I picked up a set of Rubi shocks and springs yesterday and was thinking of dipping them an Anthracite or Gunmetal grey since red shocks wouldn't match the CG/black theme I've got.

I think the trim rings may be the way to go. I've seen people that have painted them, but not dipped them. I thought it might be too thick for them to fit back on. I always kind of wished they were body color and have thought about painting them to match, but I know I'll never actually get around to that. Sounds like the dip is the way to go.

The three exclusions that you mentioned are most likely the top three plastidip areas people do.

Besides that you can install some grill inserts and spray them down with plastidip like I did.

And I seen people do the door hinges as well.

I dipped my "Trail Rated" badge and my "Polar" badge (damn thing had too many colors and was too shiny. I've also dipped my key holes. All really easy with a quick tape job.

I finally got around to trying it out. I did my A/C vent rings and passenger side grab handle insert. I screwed them both up a couple of times before I got the hang of it. I got the grab handle insert done and it looks good. My can started running out on the last coat on my vent rings, so they're screwed up again. I'll peel them, buy another can, and get it right next weekend.

What prep did you do? I tried my door locks, but it bubbled and wouldn't stick.

For those who've done their antennas, has it affected your reception at all?

Grille is easy man, was my first plastidip experience and it turned out fantastic. Key is to take your time, put on very light coats, and put at least 4 of them on.

Don't dip anything you ever plan on selling for it's real value. Once you do the value of it drops like a brick and the market of who will buy it also drops.

I should have known that was coming.

You can kind of see the roughness on the vent rings, but it's much more obvious in person. I'm incredibly happy with how the grab handle insert turned out. Up next will be fixing the vent rings, doing the front and rear door trim inserts, and maybe the grille. All that is taking a back seat to the install of the leveling kit I bought yesterday, though. I can't wait until this weekend!

I did my wheels and grill the first time I ever used it, the grill was actually very easy to do and turned out great!

I did my "Jeep" logo on the grill, grill inserts, rockers, wheels, trail rated badge and I made up some stencils. I also did "angry eyes".

There really is no limitation to this stuff. My son is going to be ordering some electric lime green in a spray can for his car. I am hoping it is a very close match to Gecko.

Last week I dipped my emblems and my spare tire. This weekend I plan to dip the rest of my tires. This should be interesting since I plan to leave them on.

I'm not sure about dipping the inside. I think I wanna take those to shop and get done in black with bright green lettering.

No worries - left mine on after watching a few YouTube videos - no sweat - biggest issue was peeling overspray off tires (think I needed to go thicker).

@ Danimal - that looks great! I'm currently in the process of adding electric green accents to my billet Jeep - love the decals & angry eyes - your work is inspiring!!!

How did you get the stencils to come out so clean? I had a hard time with plastidip anyplace where there was a break without some kind of bodyline. I had my grill done but I got tired of it eventually. I still have my door hinges done and they look great.

For those with dipped rims, do they get scratched up when you have the tires changed? Does it hurt the rim if you peel it off?

Only did mine about a month ago - few hours & about $30 - left them on. When tire gets changed at best a touch up but I'm expecting removal & re-do (depending on how much dip is ripped off rims when lugs turned). If you take the time to remove & paint rims & lugs separately you'd probably be in better shape, but for me I'd rather just deal with repainting later.

Part of the appeal of dip is that it can be (relatively) easily removed at any time without damaging what is underneath - low cost, low commitment, minimal effort , big impact (can you tell I love the stuff?!).
