What Size Tires and Lift on my 2011 Sport?

Hey everyone,

I want to upgrade my 2011 Wrangler Sport by getting bigger offroading tires. I have a few questions regarding this:

1) What size tires? I know this is a broad question, so let me elaborate. I would like to significantly enhance my Jeep's offroading capabilities without turning it into a complete monster truck. Price is not too big an issue, but obviously saving money is nice. So basically I'm looking for the happy medium. From what I have seen and read, my gut feeling would be to get 33 or 35 inch tires, but I'm not sure. From here, can anyone recommend good brands?

2) What size suspension lift? I don't want to risk any rubbing. What's the general rule for tire size vs lift size? Again, can anyone recommend good brands? There are so many different lift choices, how do you pick one?

3) With bigger tires, do I need to upgrade my axles or gearing? I've read I do and I've read I don't on different threads. If so, what should I be looking into?

You can fit 33's with no lift but you will need spacers if your using the stock wheels. If you get aftermarket wheels stay with 4.5" backspacing or less. for 33" tires you can do a simple leveling kit or go up to a 2.5" lift. As for 35's you can fit those with a 2.5" lift but 35's come with more expense as it is a good idea to beef up the axle a bit. Gearing is kind of a opinionated thing. I would get the tires an drive on them an see if your ok with it but more then likely for 33's or 35's you want a regear

I am on 33" mickey Thompson mtz s with no lift, only rubbing is at full flex. Looks great and performs great offroad. No reinforcements needed. I just today purchased a 3.5" metalcloak lift and will be installing 35" tires soon. Any bigger comes at a cost of many thousands of dollars more.
