What the heck is going on here?

I just bought my first JK. Its a 2007 Wrangler Unlimited Sahara. When I got it, the horn didnt work. I figured out that the fuses were out of the fuse block for the horns so I added them. Now, the horn works when you use the keyless entry, but not when you honk the horn at the steering wheel. I have two questions:

1. Anyone have any idea why the horn wont honk from the steering wheel?

2. What kind of mods would require the previous owner to pull the fuses out of the fuse block for the horns?

I know this isn't earth shattering but its kind of aggravating.

i could be wrong... but sounds like the clock spring mechanism in the steering wheel is causing your issues. if i remember correctly there are a few threads on this problem.

other issues involve the cruise not working and radio controls i believe.

for your second question, it sounds like the owner did not want the horn to honk when they locked their jeep. they probably did not know how to disable it and thought the fuse was the easy quickest way.

If the clockspring is defective, Chrysler recently mailed out a extended warranty to fix/replace it. Call them

I wanted to say "the horn sucks anyways" lol

Are you saying there is a way to disable the horn from honking when you use the remote door lock? I looked in my owner's manual but couldn't find it. If you know a way would you please share? The horn honking every time I lock the Jeep drives me insane.

Thanks!!!

To the original poster, have you taken it to the dealership? That would be my first stop if it wasn't working because the issue might be covered under warranty. Good Luck with it!

If you have an EVIC (on-board computer) you can disable the horn with lock/unlock in your Personal Settings.

From the PDF manual (this is for a '12 YM):

Personal Settings allows the driver to set and recall features when the vehicle speed is at 0 mph (0 km/h) (manual transmission) or when the shift lever is in PARK (auto transmission).
Press and release the MENU button until Personal Set- tings displays in the EVIC.

Sound Horn With Lock
When on is selected, a short horn sound will occur when the RKE transmitter LOCK button is pressed. This feature may be selected with or without the Flash Lamp with Lock feature. To make your selection, press and release the SELECT button until “On” or “Off” appears.

It should be in the manual. you have to hold down keys on the keyfob then do a dance. Seriously, I'll have to look, but it's definitely in the manual. I'm sure if you google it, it will come up also.

try this
For vehicles not equipped with the EVIC, perform the following steps:
1. Press the RKE transmitter LOCK button for 4 to 10 seconds.
2. While the LOCK button is pressed (after four seconds), press the RKE transmitter PANIC button. Release both buttons.
