Looking for first jeep. Narrowed it down to 2 that I'm interested in.

2016 S with AC, auto trans, 3.21, 16" steel rimsadvertised at $24.7k

2014 S 44k miles, AC, manual 3.73, 17" aluminum rims, $23.270k including fees. I've emailed this dealer ( Kia dealer) and they came down $900 off the bat.

I prefer the manual because I think it'll be more fun to drive. Seems most people here say 3.73 is the way to go.

To me it's not logical to buy used for the same $. Would plan for 33s, live in flat Kansas so no heavy off roading. Thanks for the help.

Love your user name.
You're buying a depreciating asset at this point, so you're going under water no matter which you choose.
Go with the one that meets your needs best and sets up better for what your mission is. Maybe hit that Kia dealer a little bit and see if that's going to be the one for you. Seems like 2 years older should be an even lower price. Good luck!

I really enjoy the manual transmission. It's not as practical for extreme off-road, but you said that's not what you will be doing. For me it was a must have, didn't even look at autos.

I first started saying you had a good deal because I am looking for a 4 door and your numbers were close to mine and I was like great find. But for a 2 door you could do better. I've got numbers for 27k ordering a 4 door with manual doors, 3.73, traclok, and alpine system. You should be fine with 3.21 where you are, unless you want to add lots of heavy add-ons like bumpers, heavy 33s, winch, etc. I just tried truecar using area code 40150 and got a 25.5k estimate for 2 door with ac, 3.73 and traclok. If you want the manual try to order it's not much more to get that and the better gears which will be more than enough for you and 33s.

The 2016 "S"....Is it a Sport or a Sport "S"?
Basic Sport comes with 16' wheels and the Sport S comes standard with 17" wheels.
If your using it as a DD, and don't plan on doing much modding, then the 16" wheels and the 3.21 gearing will, IMHO, be just fine.
Once you add larger tires, you may wish for different gears.

IMO go with the 2014.
@Vt rider the 2016 is a Sport. Only the Sport has 16" steelies, the Sport S comes with 17" wheels.

I want the '14, but feel like 44k miles is high. Today the salesman emailed me the "options" it had. What he really sent was the codes for every option available that year so he's clueless. I pulled the build sheet using the VIN. KBB says it's a fair price, but of course I want to pay as little as possible. Is it in unrealistic to offer 20k or 21k plus TTL?
