The typical going rate for the standard OEM soft top is about that range ($600-800). The premium top costs a lot more. I've seen one guy get one for only $800, but would expect the prices to generally be higher. OEM price on the premium top is around $2200.
I picked up one on Craigslist a few months ago for a JKU for $550, it was great deal and was only a few moths old with all the hardware included. I searched for a few months till that deal popped up and I jumped on it but most I have seen go for about $1000.
I paid $400 for a new premium top off Craigslist. Was removed from a dualtop optioned Jeep. Crazy deal. Got lucky. I would have paid more.
You need to look off season. Found my deal in winter. Right now everyone wants a soft top for the summer. Right now is the time to look for hard tops—people are removing them for the winter and thinking how much space it takes to store them and how much they like their soft tops. In the winter people will be loving their hard tops.
The wife's dream was to have the Premo soft top on the jeep.. but after looking at the build, the half doors colors wouldn't match.. If she is still game for the premo top I may have to sew something up using the twill fabric and upper door skins. Defiantly an on going topic in certain circles.
As far as the seasons when one top or the other is popular, it depends on the area. Here in AZ we're pretty much the opposite. I would never run doorless/topless in summer, but sometimes in winter and also any time in fall/spring. Summer is hardtop time here. A soft top covers 9 months of the year.
I paid $1200 for brand new (still in box) for 4 door premium OEM soft top in NJ. I think they retail for around $1500 but after tax and shipping you agree looking close to $2000 for brand new. I preferred the OEM top to the Bestop tips (just my preference)
I'll just say I love my premium soft top on my 2016. Knew I would never get a hard top. So it was 1 of only 2 upgrades I got on my 2door Sport (the other being AC).
I'd really like to get some tinted windows for mine. When I ordered I didn't know that was a thing.
