What's a drag link flip ? What does it do? Can I flip my drag link with xx amount of lift ? Some of the questions I see asked often.
A drag link flip is just how it sounds. The drag link is flipped to be run on the top of the knuckle. The knuckle is either reamed or drilled for a tapered sleeve. I prefer the sleeve because it can be reverted to stock.
Why flip the drag link ? As you lift, the arc between the track bar and drag link changes. This can be a cause for poor handling and/or bumpsteer, and more shock is transmitted to your steering box w/ the drag link at a steeper angle. Another HUGE benefit to installing a highsteer kit-as mentioned in my other thread. Raising the track bar to match DL angle, raises the front ROLL CENTER Ihttp://www.wranglerforum.com/f33/roll-center-for-dummys-258752.html t's very important to do these together or you're setting yourself up for problems.
Some manufactures go at this differently. Teraflex lowers the track bar but flips the drag link in their kit. Also include a frame brace for added strength. Remember... This will not change roll center and iirc 4-6" lift is rec.
Drop pitman arm
throw it in the garbage if your kit comes with it. You can raise the track bar but lower
the drag link using a drop pitman arm. Drop pitman arms put unneeded stress on the already weak sector shaft/steering box. Strongly advise against it.
How much lift do I need ? Well.... Of coarse angles change no matter the lift height. A small leveling kit or 2" kit won't benefit much with a highsteer setup. Most manufacturers will say 3" minimum and 3" of bumpstop. Why? Because flipping the drag link puts in closer to the fame and will contact when that side is stuffed. The 3" bumpstop prevents this from happening, with 3-4" lift already... Up travel should not be a concern. I've seen pics, and ill post if I find them. The frame can be notched to clear the drag link and not lose uptravel with 3" bumpstop.
The biggest change I felt with Synergy's highsteer. My steering wheel doesn't yank side to side hitting bumps (bumpsteer) love it
Here is a few to choose from http://www.quadratec.com/products/16189_2105.htm http://www.quadratec.com/products/16189_2105.htm http://www.evomfg.com/index.php?rout...product_id=127 http://www.aev-conversions.com/shop/...steer-kit.html http://www.teraflex.biz/jk-wrangler-...-flip-kit.html
Poor pics but you can see the angle difference between stock/flipped.
