Apparently the CVT tranny yields a 20% gain in fuel economy. This will also eliminate the complicated drive shaft lever and further refine the Wrangler's interior

Please no . . . .

Maybe that will be in the next generation of Wranglers....CJ, YJ, TJ, JK, and the WTF...

Push button starter
Rotary dial CVT tranny
Power soft top
Hands free parking

It makes me want to run...not walk...to my nearest Jeep dealer and grab whatever 2012 6-speed is on the lot.

Not the worst idea.

I can't tell you how many times I've been glad just to have the one I have. Whatever Jeep may do in the future in terms of trying to turn these into some sort of luxury/offroader thingy, at least I've got one I like. And anything I don't like about it, can be changed.

I've got a six speed, but I really, really would not want a dial shifter for 4wd. I'll take my big clunky lever, thanks. And if it breaks, I can climb under the jeep and shift it manually.

Not necessarily a bad idea if you think about it. With the tranny dial, you'd have more room on your console for other stuff.....

OK, I'll hide now.

It will really suck if I waited for the 2013 only to have that horrendous thing forced on me.

But... I also believe it's a joke. I can't find anything to support this claim, and I'm sure there would be complaints on the internet!

I'm sure it won't make it in the 2013 Wrangler... But I could see that junk in the next gen version.

2013 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup trucks

That is right folks...a rotary dial tranny selector and push button 4x4.

Argh.

Regardless of vehicle, that's just not right.....then again Chrysler made pushbutton autos in the '60s.....

If you are going to tell a good one, go with the SRT Wrangler with a big Hemi like the SRT8 Grand Cherokee with all time 4 wheel drive.

How about a solar powered electric wrangler? Just bring a generator with you on the trail just in case.

This could have been wriiten in 1986, 1996, and 2006. Think about it. We will soon be joining the ranks and will sound just like them.

I know!! I can't wait to finally be a "real" jeeper, which only happens once you can start complaining about the NEW jeepers.

I'm going to have a perpetual "Get off mah LAWN!!" look on my face whenever the next new-fangled Wrangler thingamabobs come out . . . .

A few of those options aren't too far off from what I hear

I think you'll see a more main street marketing approach. More than just mud tires and decals in 2013. With sales going thru the roof it just makes sense to market to the folks that don't wheel their Jeeps.

You making an impulse buy? I don't see that happening.

Shouldnt that be reversed? With sales going through the roof, they shouldnt need to change any marketing approach. What theyre doing seems to be working just fine if they cant keep anything on the lot

I gotta say, while I haven't even begun to mess with my softtop yet (I just got the Jeep Wednesday evening...), I would probably welcome a power-softtop. This thing just looks really...cumbersome.

As for the transmission dial, I have a manual, so I wouldn't need to worry about it.

You're still a "car" guy. You haven't been fully assimilated yet. When you get the top and doors off, you'll forget you ever said that. Resistance is futile.

I think it should be options though. I'm not a wheeler, but I don't want things like that.

I dunno, but I'd rather just hop in a vehicle and go, rather than spending all kinds of time pulling down a top...

Maybe once I get a chance to mess with it this weekend, I'll feel differently and a bit less apprehensive about everything...

The soft top is really a lot easier than it looks. You had a lot of enthusiasm about buying the Jeep, knowing that it is a pretty hands-on vehicle. Just relax and enjoy.
