True indeed...
But I'll say this much....

I've actually come around on the gear ratios....and am looking for 3.73's instead of 3.21's (which I see are hard to find sitting on the lots).

There is a JK Sport S that has been sitting on the lot for a while that I've been recently eyeing. 2 door, stick shift, connect, limited slip, hard-top....but it has 3.21's. That is the one I'm sometimes tempted to go get, and it is also why I kick myself that I didn't order last month. I just didn't think the $750 consumer cash would end in April...I figured there would be more discounts on 2012's the closer we got to June 6th. Hopefully, none of these changes end up on 2013's.

As for the transmission dial, I have a manual, so I wouldn't need to worry about it.

From what I've heard through the grapevine, the 2013 soft top will be a little bit easier to fold down than previous years...

Yeah, I'm still enthusiastic about it, even though the gas mileage, handling, braking, and positivity of the manual are amongst the worst I've ever experienced!

Despite some of those annoyances, I still would have gotten it.

Maybe once I get a chance to mess with it this weekend, I'll feel differently and a bit less apprehensive about everything...
The first time that you put the complete top on from scratch will be a major PITA. Count on several hours and several beers. Once that is accomplished, simply putting it up and down is a breeze.

I actually drove a 3.6 auto with the 3.21 gears. I certainly wouldn't go with that.

My local dealer currently has 0% financing. That's much better than cash back IMO. Go in with the Chrysler Affiliates pricing and 0%. That's better than paying cash.

What have you heard?
I would actually rather have a late year 2012 (hopefully the tapping is fixed) over a model year "13". But if there are some simple improvements going on, I could wait.

I simply screwed up (by not ordering in April).

If interests rates in money markets were higher than 0.85%, I would be more willing to finance at 0% with a small down payment while gaining interest in my account. But because the spread is so low, I would rather pay the Jeep off from day 1 and not have a car note. That is why I want to kick myself for not taking advantage of that extra $750...I simply didn't think it would end for 2012's.

I still have my affiliate discount, and a $500 direct marketing rebate (that expires at the end of the month).....so I'll continue to scan the lots to see what turns up.

No powertop, just an ingenious idea they(Magna) should've thought of since TJ days

Yeah. We already established it was a joke.

When it really come down to production time I don't think they will use the rotary shift knob gizmo even in a pickup. Stupid little things like that are plenty of reason to make us pickup truck buyers change brands. I always drive a crew cab pickup for a daily driver but wouldn't buy one with a dial instead of a shifter as long as any others are available. That's like only offering trucks in pink. Simple but they can't afford to lose the sales.

Hmmmm...If you don't rotate the muffler bearings every 1K miles you are asking for trouble. Just my two cents...

It will not work at all for the now under-powered 2012.

Towing capacity has been increased to 5000lbs for the 2 door and 7500lbs for the 4dr. All jeeps will come with 4:10 with otional 4:88 and 5:13.
LOL let me guess what year you have....and it's horsepower

Chrysler Just released a news letter out to the press. The 2013 will make major changes 4:88 gears stock and a soft top that pulls so tight when latched it creates a hard top. But it dont stop there for all the non rubicons all jeeps have front and back dana 44's. and to top it off they will come with an option at no extra cost you can go from stock height up to a 4" lift free of charge.

I heard they are developing a soft top in which you dont have to remove the windows. They will fold down with the top..
