Ran into a small issue of forgetting my wallet at home and gas light coming on, on my way home from work today. Only thing I could do was pray that I made it back. I was honestly really impressed that I was able to get 360miles out of one tank. I do about 85% highway driving. 2014 JKU auto 3.21 with KO2 mud terrains
On our 17 JKWW my fuel light comes on with 3 gals left. Enough to 50 miles without worry before filling up. My reading for Avg mileage reads 19 for just an FYI
I average 350 to 360 regularly now but when I first bought it I couldn't get it past 320. The Jeep has just under 10k miles now.
Getting to 350 was my magic number because it means I only have to gas up once a week, but to be honest, even when I was only getting 320 I wasn't all that upset. I love commuting in my Jeep.

Dang I wish I get that much on a regular basis. Then again my Jeep is going on 60k. And mileage dropped once I put the leveling kit and mud terrain tires on.
Seeing how we've had the jeep 1 week.. we topped off the tank Sunday ($40.00) and it's now Thrus.. At this point with gas being 2.46 a Gal.. the fuel gauge is sitting at half a tank.. That's driving to and from work (apprx 27 miles)
Light (which comes on way to early IMO) usually comes on ~275 and fill up around ~325. Crazy how quick the numbers go down I remember when I first got it getting ~19mpg and 375 out of a tank and not sweating it.
This is commonly known as the hidden 5 gallons. When the light comes on there is 4-5 gallons left on a 4 door, 3-4 on a 2 door.
The thought behind this is due to a carry over fix on the TJ's where there was a problem with the fuel sensor accuracy, where TJ owners were running out of gas before the light came on.
most i've gotten was 399 miles round trip from NJ to DC... i really considered driving around the gas station parking lot just to make it to the 400 mark.
When my Jeep was still stock I was getting close to 400 miles averaging around 22 mpg. JKU, 3.21, 6spd. My commute was 37 miles each way all highway with some traffic thrown in. Now with the 285/70 Nittos and the 2" lift I'm averaging 19mpg and about 330 miles, but I never wait until the light comes on. If I'm around a 1/4 tank and see a cheap station I stop. Commute now is 27 miles mostly highway, but a bit more traffic.
I'm at 240 miles on this tank, normally have to fill up at 225, but a trip to the lake last weekend for a bachelor party helped. It was about an hour and a half each way, for the first time ever, I saw 20mpg average.
I'd be happy if I hit 275. My drive is usually stop and go city traffic, so not any competition for a Prius, unless there's 18" of snow on the road.
I got 401 miles once. I put 22.2 gal of gas in aferwords. I now have 2.5" lift -295/60/20s and I don't fill back up until I at least have 350 miles on it.
The other day, I was driving, and I actually drove to the lowest point on the Fuel Gauge that I've ever been in any vehicle I drive. I was practically on E once I got into the gas station. Cluster was giving me the "Lo Fuel" indicator and all.
I proceed to fill up, and I barely got over 15 gallons into the tank (even topped off a little).
I'm fully aware that they add a small reserve for stranded situations, and I even was just perusing my build sheet, which tells me I have an 18.6 gallon tank.
Is it possible the reserve is about 3 gallons?
I'm not complaining, I guess I'm more astonished that I have that much reserve space. I don't normally drive until I'm on E, maybe 1/4 left is when I start getting anxious...
Read post #13.
There is still gas left when the low fuel light comes on. How much depends on whether you are in a 2 door or a 4 door. 3 - 4 gallons seems like what the 2 door has.
I almost always fill up when I hit a 1/4 tank, though I have been known to do so around 1/2. I've never encountered the need to push my luck with low fuel, too many gas stations are passed and the credit card is always handy.
Stock JKRHR with 3.73 auto. I usually get ~225 or so before I fill up. My son went joy riding a couple of weeks ago and got 290.8, the fuel light came on and he panicked (I was not happy).
Just completed a 3,100 mile trip in my 2016 Sport 2-door with Auto Trans. Averaged 21.4 MPG overall. Lows were in the low 19s and the high was just over 25 MPG. The overall MPG would equate to 398 miles on a full tank of 18.6 gallons. I am using mid-grade gas. JWL
It was a rural road with a 50 mph speed limit, light traffic and no traffic signals. Obviously driving slowly without interruptions makes a big difference in mileage. Usually get around 16 in town and 21 on the road. JWL
