Whats this knock

Have a 13' jk sport with 3500 miles. When i go over a speed bump rather slow or any change of pavement height I get this knock on the rear driver side area. Sound like a knuckle on a wood door. I have checked the hardtop bolts the rear seat latches, even had my son and niece sit back there while trouble shooting and i still hear it. Needless to say its annoying as all heck. Could it be a shock? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I think I have the same knock - thought it might be the door latch/lock. I have 2013 JKUR with 3000 miles and it's aggravating to say the least. Anybody have a solution or know what this is?

Try the ole electrical tape around the door latch pillar loop trick. Just a few wraps around the outer bend will do.

Check in your rear storage box. My freedom panel screws where in there and I had the same sound till I figured it out.

So I think I found the problem. I removed the spare tire and drove around over speed bumps and not a sound. I have a sport and bought the 13 rubi wheels to put on. It looks like the rubi spare weight is causing and issue with the latch mechanism some how and it shakes causing the knocking sound. Im going to reposition the tire and lugs tighten everything down and give it a go. I tried wrapping electrical tape around the loop but it didnt work or i need more. Either way if all fails ill take it in to have the latch replaced. A stock rubi wheel that i see sitting on back of hundreds of jeeps shouldnt be a problem. Just my luck.

seem to have a similar issue with my 2012 unlimited, although the knock seems to be coming from somewhere between the rear seat and the drivers seat. Initially thought it was the rear door cables in the pillar, but not the case. Only does it once and a while, but its a definite thud…Anyone else have something along those lines?

I have the occasional knock/clunk sound when my doors are on. Doors off, no sound. Electrical tape around the latch post stopped it. Now I mostly run doorless so no worries here! Yes, Florida is great this time of year!

Yeah, i feel like it is the rear passenger door maybe. Might try your tape trick….WAY too cold here to take the doors off unfortunatley

The driver door latch needs a special grease applied to it....and yes I believe only the dealers have it. It takes all of 30 seconds for a tech to apply it.
