Maybe the Chrysler 'pentagon' emblem?

Why call it the "pentastar"? What's "penta" about it? Should it have been the octastar? Or is it just a Chrysler "penta" hold over like its pentagon-like emblem?

You have to really know your Jeeps to pick out a 2012 from previous models (unless of course you look under the hood or you're looking at the unique 2012 colors). Mine is a black Sahara JKU which is not any different than previous models. However, mine has the 70th Ann. factory wheels. if you know the 70th wheels were only offered on the 2011 70th Ann. and as an option on the 2012, then you will immediately know that mine is a 2012 because it has the Sahara badge and not the 70th Ann. badge on the side. It can be complicated to tell the difference in the common colors such as black, red, silver, etc...

How about "Disk Brakes" and about the only thing I can remember that bragged on stopping, rather than go power.

Easiest thing to do. Look underneath. That exhaust bubble protrudes like nothing I have ever seen. You'll know it's a 2012.

Wish I had up close back shots of the two. I park next to a guy with a 12 and there is a difference in the way the exhaust looks.

I can pick mine as a 2010, as the dark charcoal pearl only came out on the 2010 so thats easy. Really easy for us to pick the 2012's though, they are all still sitting in the Chrysler import lot as they wont release them yet til more of the '11s are sold...

The original engine code name was "Phoenix". Due to trademark issues it was changed to "Pentastar". The Chrylser emblem is a pentastar. Jeep is it's own brand owned by Chrysler so it would make no sense to put the Chrysler emblem on it. Since the Wrangler is only available with one engine choice it makes no sense to show it on the vehicle.

When does marketing have to make sense?

There's nothing to market, there is only one engine choice.

2012s have the Jeep grill decal in the top center of the windshield and the Jeep climbing in the lower corner. Also there is the year mark on the interior. Some later 2011s have this though. That's really the only change other than the engine stuff.

Correct, there is only one engine choice, but there are lots of marketing strategies, and a badge that says "3.6L" could be one of them.

So would I be "cool" if I slapped one of those on the back of my 3.8?

Don't the 2012 models have the wider rear window on the hard top? (of course if you have a 2012 softop model this means absolutely nothing. LOL)

Well, you would be differentiating your Jeep. I think it'd be "cool" to have a 2012 with a false "3.8L" emblem, pull up to an older JK at a light, and beat them off the line...
Better yet, have an older JK with the "3.8L" emblem (but with the ripp gen2 supercharger), and blow away the 2012 JK! Hah! What fun!

The soft top has a wider window as well, however both began with the '11.

Hya SeaComms!
.....for the JK export models there is the new VM Motori 428RA Common Rail Diesel (CRD) engine with a little more complicated electronics then de previous export diesel.

In Europe the pollution norm for the new VM Motori Wrangler Diesel is Euro 5.
Mine JKU from 2009 has a Euro4 pollution standard engine.

I've heard that in the US and Canada there will be a 3,0 CRD engine available for the JK's originated also from Italy (VM) as Italian-US marriage was celebrated already years ago.

Cheers
John

If you see them in person, there's a pretty noticeable difference between BFG and the Natural Green from last year. I did think a NG at the dealer was black at first glance on a cloudy day at the dealer but a second look I could easily see it was dark green. With sun it's more obvious. My BFG even in the sun I still have to catch it right to see the green. Usually sun reflections on curves like the windshield pillar or the curve of the hood to the fender. I expect it will come out better in summer sun though. Any clouds at all, and it's black. Pictures online it's nearly impossible to tell.
