Wheel spacers/ backspacing/offset???

I finally found the wheels and tires I want for my stock 2012 wrangler 2dr. They are 18x9 with a offset of 12mm. What does the 12 mm offset mean? The tires I am going with are 285/65/18 33" what size wheel spacers would I need to clear? And I hear a lot about back spacing but what is it? Thanks...

Here's a chart that explains it...easier with pictures than words.

Great Tool for evaluating Tire/Wheel sizes (Backspace and Offset)

If you want, post a link to the specific rims you're looking at and I (or someone) will tell you if they'll fit.

Is it 12 or -12? Big difference. If its 12 then the backspace is 5.5", if it is -12mm it then the bs is 4.5"

The offset is now saying 18 I think the 12 was a different wheel but it is 18 not -18

0 offset is the center of th wheel. A positive offset makes the wheel sit further in the wheel well and s negative gives you a wider Stance. 18 offset makes the backspace right at 5.75"

By the way, 285's will work with that backspace/offset but if you go to true 33's later or 35's that are 12.5" wide the wheel won't handle those. If you could, I recommend wheels at a minimum of 0mm offset to a -12mm offset. If leaves room if you want to later change tire sizes. But again, for a 285 you should be fine.

If you use the pull-down menu in the link I sent you (directly under the photo of the rim), you'll see that they carry two 18x9's. One is a +18mm offset (avoid), the other is –12mm (buy).

If you look at other rims, you want 4.5" backspacing or less, and 5x5 (or 5x127, same thing, but metric) bolt pattern.
