Wheels and Lift

I bought a 2014 JKU Sport and I want to upgrade the wheels and add a lift in the near future. I want to put on 35s if not bigger and at least a 3in lift. How much will it cost overall with labor?

You'll need to figure out what type of lift you want before anyone can even answer that question.

What are you going to be doing with the jeep? Just daily driver/highway or daily driver weekend warrior?

Are you looking for spacers, springs, short arm, long arm?

Do a search and some reading. Come back with some questions.
Without knowing more the only answers you will get is somewhere between $200 and $20000

I live in GA so there are lots of trails especially in N GA. Probably no to springs, at least not right now. Yes to spacers. Changed my mind to 4in or more lift. What do you like better, short or long arm?

4" is a pretty big lift on JK. It's 100% possible to do it but just know what you are getting into since you seem to be new to the game and it is your DD.

A quick search will reveal numerous threads regarding the additional mods and issues that arise sooner or later with lifts above 2.5". 2.5" kits will provide ample room for 35" tires while greatly reducing the impact on all of the steering, suspension and driveline joints.

Bigger lifts look great and can definitely provide more capability off road but they become expensive and detract from the ride and handling on the road. Stay away from the temptation of cheap lift kits that give you a lot of parts for a low price. The bigger the lift the more important this becomes.

Many new owners with no experience choose to install the lift themselves over a weekend with minimum tools, check out some of those threads. It can be very rewarding and when something breaks you will be better prepared to diagnose and maybe repair it. If you go with a shop then pick a shop that has experience with installing lift kits on Jeeps and maybe get some references.

You want a 4"+ on just spacers? You're setting yourself up for disaster. A decent 4" kit will run you probably $2500, then add in another 400-600 for shocks, and since you're over 3", you'll probably need new drive shafts pretty quickly, etc etc. suspension is one of those things you don't want to skimp on.

Definitely look in to Metal Cloak, Synergy, Rock Krawler (In no particular order) 2.5" lift kits. They will net you around 3-3.25 inches of lift depending on weight of your bumper, winch, etc. Most 2.5 inch lift kits are going to be able to clear 35's with some minor fender trimming and proper bump stops.

My advice to you is to do your research and don't rush in to anything. There are installation videos out there that will tell you step by step how to install your lift and save you a lot of money.

If you have 3.23 gears you will most likely want to do a regear which can cost you between $1,000 to $2000 just so it won't be sluggish and bog down the engine.

Ok, I am apparently out of my mind and have no clue what I'm talking about!!! I want it to look good without being crazy. Right now it's stock and it's not my favorite look in the world. So I definitely want 35s on it and a decent lift, what size lift then? I don't want to be paying for a lot of other things right now, I just want the lift and wheels. Yes, I am very new to this. What else do I need? I would not attempt to put the lift on myself, wheels yes, lift kit no. Yes, I am clueless

3.23? Typo? Should be 3.21, 3.73 or 4.10.

Yeah, anything under 4.10 with 35's your going to want to re gear to 4.56 or 4.88.

Don't get overwhelmed. Take everything a step at a time and do your research. You have the first step, you know exactly what you want. I would stay away from spacer lifts if you plan on off roading. A 2.5 or 3 inch lift is all you are going to need.

Read over this thread and develop some questions. That's why we are here!

Take it slow, we are here to help.

Although it looks really cool, running 35" wheels is going to cost you thousands of dollars to do it right. Doing it wrong could lead to constant mechanical failure or accidents.

There are so many different options for EVERYTHING! I mean that is part of the reason I chose the Jeep over a truck. But you can do soo many different things that I don't even know where to start. Actually I started with seat covers and floor mats but still. I want to do it right the first time so whatever it takes

Trust me, I most likely won't do anything myself because of that, even though it will cost me more and I know I could do it I probably won't. I will pay what it takes to do it right the first time even if it takes me 2 years to get what I want. Although it won't because I can't wait that long

Ok, so you can get away with 3.73's, it is bearable. You'll understand once you have the tires installed. It's nothing major since you have the pentastar motor but it is something to keep in mind down the road.

What kind of money are you looking to spend right now?

With the 3.73 axle ratio I wouldn't do a regear right away, many people are okay with the performance of 35" tires and the 3.73, but it will definitely feel slower off the line and a little sluggish going up hills.

I LOVE my spiderweb shade. I kind of think tube doors are useless but that is just my opinion.

There's a guy in the classifieds selling a brand new 2.5" teraflex lift with shocks. That would be a good direction to go.

For wheels/tires, call discount tire direct and talk to then. Very good folks and great prices, make sure you let them know you're a forum member... You get another discount. There are tons of tire threads, but the forum favorites seem to be Goodyear duratracs. (You'll get a lot of people chiming in about toyos, nittos, coopers, hankooks, etc)

Not sure, it might be a few months because I keep buying other things for it. I was told around 7 for the lift and wheels, not sure what size anything, just 7?Seems like that is unrealistic?

Ok I think that is my next purchase. I like the look of the tube doors, but they don't keep you in so I think I'll pass for now and just take the doors off.

Just took the doors off when I checked the weather report and saw low 80s and only a 10% chance of rain on Friday. We have seatbelts and we're not turning 2 Gs, not sure why anyone needs tubular doors. I got the spiderweb shade so my daughter can enjoy the top down more, I love the sun. It is superb at cutting down on direct sun and wind, great product made in the USA.

7 seems a bit extreme but if it is a quality lift, good tires/rims and includes labor... That number might not be too far off. It would really depend on exactly what was included.

One of the better kits out there (IMO) is the Metal Cloak Game Changer. It's 3K but includes everything. But you can go buy springs, shocks, front/rear track bar, bump stops, and sway bar links for about 1,200. That would get you lifted and able to run 35's with some minor fender trimming.

Anybody have dogs? I have 3 and I will let them ride once I get the seat covers in, actually scratch that one isn't allowed in the car so 2. How do you keep them from falling out if you have the doors off?
