I put off wheels/tires/lift as long as I could. 25k miles with Plasti dip LOL
After tons of reading and viewing pictures I went with DTD, 17 XD Addicts, 35’s Nitto Trail Grapplers. They arrived on schedule last Friday. To say I was a bit shocked at the actual size was an understatement, there HUGE, Very happy. My plan WAS to run the 35’s and do a budget boost lift in a month or two. After mounting the tires and driving around my area it was clear, that wasn't going to happen. They rubbed on even slight dips. The Rubicon rock rails were damn close to the tires so I trimmed them, very simple to do.
So Saturday I drove to 4 Wheel parts to get a cheap easy 2.5 puck lift. They had nothing in stock so I was than going to get a coil lift, nothing in stock LOL. So I went with the Pro Comp 2.5 stage 1 lift, Coils, shocks, the works.
My budget was blown and they wanted roughly $600 for the install so I figured I have some tools and it can’t be that hard.
Installing the lift took about 1.5 days with one helper. It’s not that hard to do if you’re somewhat handy. However, the instructions always leave some stuff out as I learned but I didn't lose any hair over it.
Impressions……
You definitely lose some power to the ground, the tires are darn heavy. The gearing on the Rubicon definitely helps. What I have found is mine is a manual tranny so I hold each gear a bit longer before shifting. Because of the added weight I notice the brakes are not as effective, so I brake a bit earlier.
I drove 3 days before getting the alignment. Before the alignment it was a bit lose. After the alignment it’s tight as it was prior to the mods. The suspension is just slightly stiffer, barely noticeable. Overall I’m extremely happy and would definitely do the exact combo again.
I’ll add pics shortly……
