When its time to sign on the X

Anyone who has ordered a jk, what does the dealer usually try to sell you when you go in to pick up your jeep? I know the warranty and probably try an extended warranty...but what else do they try to get you on? Anything worth it?

undercoatings (at least in the northeast).

play hardball, they want to move the jeep. tell them you'll do the warranty but they have to give you free oil changes and tire rotations for the life of the vehicle.

don't be afraid to ask. the worst they can say is no - you never know when they might say yes.

If anything, buy gap ins. Its only like 6 bucks a month. They will push the life time warranty big time. I would have gotten that, but 220 extra per month was kinda steep for me. I still have the option to buy it, and may do so now. Looking back I should have. It covers everything, including life time oil changes.

$220! A month? How much are they charging you for the warranty? I've seen people on here get it for around $2k. Unless you financed your Jeep over 12 months, the warranty should add like $40 a month on a 60 month loan.

The following Edmunds article may be illuminating. The F&I room is often the biggest profit center at many dealerships.

Bought 2 jeeps from same dealer this year...Sahara and 10A Rubicon. I had my own financing so they didn't even offer me anything. Last time, a week ago, the finance guy said " Sign here to show you declined the extra insurance and blah, blah, blah!". I was done in 5 minutes. Fastest paperwork in the last 10 vehicles I've purchased.

I’ve purchased a few new cars/trucks in my lifetime. I live in the northeast and never, ever has a dealership try to sell me undercoating.

In my experience the salesperson tries to get you to purchase whatever you want at the highest $ amount possible.

The finance guy, whether purchasing with cash or financing will mention the extended warranty. They usually look at me and say "you're not interested in this, are you?" I say no and we are done.

When I arrive I do say something to the affect of wanting this truck, at this price and I want to get this done quickly.

I get the price I want or I’ll go somewhere else. I’m nice during the whole process, but am upfront about what I want to pay.

AGREED ! i got the top shelf Lifetime warranty for $2,250...it was just about $40 a month... I do ALOT of miles..i'd expect my Sahara to have about 125,000 on the O.D. by the time i make my 60th payment... SO the protection was worth it to me.. I got him to throw in 3 yrs free oil changes also..

Gap insurance..has alot to do with the amount you put down... if you put a good chunk down and the Jeep gets totalled on your way homw..he book value pay out should cover your loan balance..

Undercoating ? seriously... what am i buying a Studebaker?? the sales and finance guy at the dealer knew me (we bought my wife a GC Limted about 18 months ago...) when it came to the undercaot he whipped out 1 of about 50 sheets of paper he had and said.."here you gotta sign here to say you didn't fall for the undercoating"

...reminds me of the Seinfeld episode...when Puddy was selling Jerry the car...
Puddy: "let's see, what else.....rust proofing, undercoating, exrta surcharge overcharge fee...finders fee"

Jerry: "finders fee ??? it was on the lot !!!"

Puddy: "yeah, thats right.......ok what else...keys"

Jerry: " KEYS ?!?!?!"

Puddy: "Yeah, How ya gonna start it?"

That was for their "platinum" package. I thought it was expensive, and still do. I have the regular warranty that comes standard.

Dealers love love love to sell extended warranties that rarely work and rarely cover anything. Just say no.

They also love to sell "paint protection" or "Summer heat protection" or something insane, where you can come in every 6 months and get some bogus wax job that, in reality, you'll never show up for and was no where near worth the $600. Just say no.

Those are the main two that I see.

There are some good threads here about the extended warranty. Do a search and find the link to the Chrysler dealer that sells warranties online. Cheaper than what the dealer will offer you. When you show your dealer the quote, they'll likely come down on the price for you.

With regards to whether the warranty is worth it, I think you've got to at least consider it if you plan on owning the Jeep for 5 years or more. After all, it is a Chrysler product......I will likely buy it, but I plan on keeping mine for 10 years or so.

ok, seriously...how long were you financing the Jeep for...cuz if it was more then one year...$220 a month is OFF THE CHARTS !
if it was a typical 5 year loan...that had to be equal to about half of your payment.... and the warranty would've been like $13,000 ! ! ! i can't imagine ANY dealer trying to get away with that....

.....for those people that say extended warranties are worthless and don't cover anything.... i doubt thats true. The whole program is based on the OVERWHELMING tendency for people to be easily distracted by things that are "new and shiney"......most people don't keep their vehicles a long time and a lot of people will see something "NEW" 3-4-5 years from now and HAVE TO HAVE IT ! (say for instance the Next Wrangler in 2016).....and they will forget all about that $40 a month they paid..let alone remember sitiing t the table and hearing that the warranty was upward of $2000.... and Chrysler will have made their money off of them.....
Like i said befor i drive alot..+/- 500 miles a week...about twice the average... i'll hit 36,000 miles in about 18 months...70,000 miles in about 3 years...so for me extra coverage is needed just to cover me beyond making mayments...
