Going to be installing an aftermarket radio with nav. Where is the best place to mount he GPS antenna. Directions discourage mounting on the dash (something to do with the type of glass used nowadays). Says that you won't get good signal. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is there a better place to mount the antenna? Where does the stock nav antenna mount?

Purely a guess on my part. I'll say it is mounted in the upper framework of the front window. With the removable tops etc. I can't imagine it would be anywhere else.
That is IF there is really an antenna at all. Nowadays with the compact electronic packages there may be a small antenna right on the top of the unit under the dash.

@mindyb The stock gps antenna is on top of the roll cage just above the front passenger's head. You can Velcro yours to the A pillar at base of the windshield or behind the rearview mirror if you have a long cable to nicely route it hidden around the windshield.
Good to know about the stock location. I think I will try mounting it there, but good idea with mounting behind the rear view mirror!

If I'm not mistaken, the antenna for the factory GPS unit is under the dash on top of the instrument cluster. If that wouldn't work on your install, this is how I would do it in the photo. This is a satellite antenna, but the GPS would work the same way. After mounting it in front of the windshield, he just ran the cable through the firewall.

After researching this more, I have found that it is the XM antenna (not the gps) that is located on the passenger side pillar. LBJ may be correct on the placement of the gps antenna. I haven't found anything else online. I was hoping to use the stock location if possible, just figuring it would be the best location.

Just leave in the radio itself under the dash. My Pioneer 8100NEX gets better nav reception with that than WAZE on my phone.

The nav antenna has a magnetic base that just sticks to the radio. I actually read somewhere that was a good (the best?) place for it.
