Where should I mount my Sirius Antenna?

Hey,

So I installed a roof rack a while back and ever since then, my satellite reception has been really spotty and frustrating. I finally tracked down the replacement I need and I have it in hand. I'm just wondering where the best place to mount the thing would be.

I know that the general spot is under the padding on the roll bar behind the passenger seat, and that is where my current antenna is, so that's no good. From what I've gathered, the antenna is not waterproof, so mounting it outside in inadvisable. I was thinking of mounting it on my hood, but I don't want to have to buy another one in a few months due to damage from the elements.

I would like to mount it on top of my rack. but again, the waterproofing is an issue. So, does anyone have experience with where to mount the sirius antenna when you have a roof rack? Or, has anyone successfully mounted an antenna in reach of the elements, or waterproofed one?

Thanks for the help.

Best buy sales a weather proof antenna. The connections should be the same. Mine is mounted center of the roll bar. It could be mount on hood if you prefer.

Are you guys sure about that? I bought a different magnetic antenna, was told it should work, and the connections were different. After some searching, this is the only replacement antenna with the same connections that I could find.

MOPAR 82210466AB - MOPAR® SIRIUS Satellite Radio Installation Kit for 07-10 Jeep® Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited JK - Quadratec

Do you guys have the factory installed radio or aftermarket? Because connections are different. After talking to the SiriusXM customer service and a ton of searching, I never found a waterproof antenna for a factory installed satellite radio.

If such a thing exists, please point me in it's direction.

i ran my wire through the role cage foam covering and mounted mine on the top of my sound bar.. on the exposed metal.. stuck it there so it didn't slide around or anything.. still had good signal through my soft top.. should be good with hard top too.

Just ran the wire down under the carpet on my floor drivers side.. ran down the door jam and then up the b pillar to the top of the sound bar..

top on/off its never in the way.

Yeah, that's where I have my antenna right now, and because of the roof rack, the reception is extremely spotty. It'll cut out on me when I'm sitting in the middle of an open field with nothing taller than 3-4 feet around me.

I'm thinking I might just cover the open areas with silicone or something...

My bad didn't read your entire post somehow..

You could mount it on your dash with some velcro... i'd park out and that field and move it around until i had good signal there and just mount it right there. you can mount it on the outside on your rack somewhere and it'll be fine.. its waterproof and such.. if you're not going to be taking your top off anyways because of the rack.. that'd work.

my dad has an avalanche.. he ran is wire through the interior and out a door jam to the roof.. the oem sirius black magnetic antenna.. it's weatherproof.. no issues.. his had his mounted that way over a year.
