where to mount a mid size cb on a JK

I have done the search, and have found that most are putting the cb above the rear view mounted to the windshield cowling. anybody have any other mount ideas that do not infringe on the passenger compartment? Looking to keep the better 1/2 happy while still being safe while wheels not on pavement.

spent 2 hours tonight positioning in different places, but could not come up with the ideal spot

Thanks in advance

My cobra 19 is mounted in my center console. I bought this one with the intentions of putting it out of site.

Probably isn't an "ideal" spot but more a lesser annoying spot.

I guess depends on where you want to put. I have a Cobra 75, so I don't have that issue. While I was deciding on what CB to buy, I came across these, ARIZONA ROCKY ROAD ANTENNA MOUNTS FOR JEEP WRANGLER, UNLIMITED AND LIBERTY and this one, Tuffy 142-01 - Tuffy Security Products Single Compartment Overhead Security Console for 07-12 Jeep® Wrangler & Wrangler Unlimited JK - Quadratec

Hope that helps.

BBTJ - Yes, I like the tuffy product, had a double mount in my TJ. Thought about it last night while trying to figure out where to hang the Cobra 25 WX NW ST. It is too big to put into the counsole, so it is looking like above the mirror.

Guess you would consider mine a full size but you could still mount velcro on the bottom of your CB and place it on the top of the dash area. It works well for me and stays in place. That way I can remove it from the dash when I am in the city or don't want it seen by car burglars.

IMO It is difficult to install a CB in the newer interior without making the CB look tacked-in and the interior look cluttered.
The older style interior was WAY more accomodating to accessories like a CB, switch panels, etc.

Considering I only use it on the trail, I went for a smaller handheld/convertible CB rig that I keep in the center console.

Ive seen cb radios built into the center console. You could also mount inside a secure aftermarket console. Tons of ways. Creativity.

STrider - agree with the tacked in look, and it seems there is no good way to avoid that. I like the small Cobra that jkristie44 has, but that interior looks like a '10 or '11 and has a bit more room. The larger Cobra 25 doesn't really fit there very well.

I like the idea of the velcro on the dash, but I think I will try it above the mirror (less in teh way) and the top plastic cowling snaps right off.

Ultimately, I am thinking we will end up with the center box from Tuffy or something with MOLE straps on it, and it will end up getting mounted there.

thanks for the input so far

I mounted the uniden 520xl ( same size as the 510) right in front of my right shin. I don't have pics, but it's mounted to the panel under the steering wheel, a bit to the right. Its not in the way. I put the mic clip on the dash and the cord runs straight up without having to hang over the radio or air holes. The uniden is a bit smaller than most cbs though...

This picture doesn't have the plastic but it fits right.

I hang mine on the footman loop with no drilling. It still works with the 2012 type of hard top. This link will take you directly to a picture and write-up about it -->Remove Sub Box to Ground and Run Antenna Coax - 2DR 2012. It's worked out really good up there. You can run the mic cable over the radio and sort of lock it up there by putting it in the clip for when you don't want to use it. With the Uniden 520XL I'm running if I let the mic go it just dangles and doesn't too much get in the way. Versus if it was on the floor and you dropped it then you would have to fish around to find it.

I also ran the antenna cable through the roll bar padding which worked out pretty good.

Full size Galaxy SSB and Tuffy mount

This is a full size Galaxy CB with sideband and it barely fit in the box. I had to cut a square out of the back to attach the antenna and power cable.

How do you like your A. R. R. overhead cb mount? Does it interfere with the sun shades? Or get on the way of the soft top clamps?
Am looking at it as a cheaper alternative to the tuffy overhead console.

X2! I am looking to purchase a Bearcat 980SSB and the best mounting location for the 2012 seems to be on top of the center stack. I was considering some kind of flat mounting surface, but your application looks like it can be velcroed directly to the dash/storage bin. Any pics you have of different angles and wiring would be helpful. Thanks!

I bought this radio as well and the theme of my Jeep is to keep everything installed clean and stealthy so I can have fun without tops and doors. I mounted mine in the Glove box because it locks. I don't know if this would work for the OP because they "don't want to infringe on the passenger compartment" but it could be an option. Now I need to buy a right angle connector and route the mic to the drivers side.

I tried this but when I would go to close it would interfere with the metal bracket can you post more pictures of how you installed with wiring etc

I used Rooster's write up to mount mine. I run the mic cable over top of the CB when I'm not usig it and it doesn't dangle. Keeps the interior nice and clean looking.

This is where I mounted mine in the 2010. Moved the CB to the '12 and it is in a similar spot, but mounted on the inside rear of the console.

Something to consider.... anything you install in the interior of your Jeep, any vehicle really, may become an obstacle during a crash (god forbid). When you install something, keep in mind where your body will go... where will your legs/knees hit the dash, what's over your head (the overhead storage units for example), what's to your side, and very importantly, where do the air bags deploy. You dont want to bust a knee cap or get wacked in the head during what could have been an non-injury minor crash, bump in a rut , kick back from a rock or log... whatever. Just food for thought.

I would put the CB in the console or along the rear of the console.

Would a cb pluged into the cigerette lighter power it enough, I don't want to hard wire it in, since it will be easy for them to rip out and damage factory wires
