I plan on buying a MyGIG Air what allows input for 5 cams so I want to add a front cam to the mix. Where are you guys mounting your front cameras? I'm thinking somewhere around the lower front bumper area but not sure. I will also have a dash camera on the windshield but want a lower camera view also. Lets see those front camera locations, some pic of the shot too will be a plus :beerdrinking:
Mounting location depends on what you're wanting to see. I have a sony action cam that screws onto a 1/4" thread bolt, so I drilled a hole in a hose clamp for the bolt and mounted on the middle of my front hoop. Also had it mounted onto a piece of all-thread run through the rear kongo kage mount to show both front & rear tires on obstacles. On my 3rd year of doing this. Inside the Jeep I just screw on a small tripod and wedge against the windshield.
Meant to also ask what cameras are being used. They're so many different types and styles to pick from. I am thinking the front camera will be facing downward.
I'm still deciding where to mount and what to buy for my front camera. If anybody has some good ideas lets here them. Been thinking of 1 that sits flush but where I'm thinking of installing it is on my lower front skid on my Hard Rock which is curved. Also thinking about 1 of the license plate style cameras but it would be 8" wide. Hmm
I have the camera mounted in the front bumper just below the fair lead. Drilled a hole with the bit that came with the camera from Amazon. Camera is mounted flush.
Mine was going to go on my front license plate. The plan was to take the front license plate camera (non mirror image) that I have rigged up as a baby cam and put it on the front plate as soon as I my kid was no longer rear facing....but the soon to be arrival of baby #2 kinda blew those plans up.
I think I'm going to try a few different places over the next year, to see what seems to work best.
Camera was only $10, so if it get's mashed, crashed or rashed, it's no big deal.
Interested in what kind of camera as well. I want to put one facing down 45 degrees, if possible, so that when I climb a hill I can see what is on the other side (Jeeps, bikes, atv's, people, bigfoot?) before I go over the top.
A friend of mine did this on his Comanche, I think using an old baby monitor, and it is pretty cool. Not sure if he's still running it, haven't seen him on the trails this year.
I need a weatherproof one, obviously, so when I get mud on it I can just wash it off.
