Where to store uppers onboard?

I've got a newbie question. I love my half doors on my 2dr JK, but I hate the uppers. I've heard they should fit behind the rear seat but I can't make it work with the top folded down. Since it's a daily driver too, I would like to carry all my windows with me so I can button down when weather or passengers dictate, and I want to keep my back seat free for passengers. I've tried the Mopar window storage bag, and I've tried using a soft top boot to keep the top out of the way, but neither work or help the way I hoped. Anyone out there making it work?

sorry i have the 4dr so mine all fit laying down flat.

so if you stand them up against the rear seat the soft top doesn't have enough room to fold down between the doors and the tailgate? there has to be a way, thats the whole point of the half doors.

Try storing them behind the seat before you drop the top. Idk, I usually just leave mine at home... I figure we can tough it out till we get back if we have all the other parts.... Keep a throw or two under the back seat for passengers, and well, the heater rocks! I have an insta-trunk, so it takes up an inch or so behind the seat, but in theory it should work to put them back there...

My buddy just leaves his at home too...he keeps a few towels under the seat like Infernogirl said. Infernogirl, I was thinking about getting an instatrunk too, does it work well? Have any pics you could send me of it? Thx

You can't really roll up half door uppers.....

Smatica, it works great! My mistake, mine is actually a Mopar "Add a trunk" but it should be just like the Bestop one...

This is what mine looks like...

Resuce1 “there has to be a way, that's the whole point of the half doors “-Right?! That's what I'm saying. I can fit one, but not both.

InfernoGirl- I tried that when I had the uppers in the window bag, but the top kept dragging on the bag and didn't seem to fold right... but I was already in cussing mode by then, so I'll give it another try. BTW, after that failed, I left the uppers in the bag, folded the seat forward, folded the top down, then tried to pull the seat back. It did click into place, but only with an uncomfortable amount of pressure. Maybe I'm not folding the top down correctly, but it looks right... I think, not that the owners manual was much help, oh wait, what manual? All I got was this stupid DVD-ROM! Another peeve, 2010s don't come with a paper owner's manual, just a disk. Arggg

Foxy- I do need something for the windows and Clover Patch seems the way to go.

Smatica- I bought the add-a-trunk. It looks good, but never installed it after figuring that I can't have it and even try to put the uppers in the back. Think I'll sell it. FYI, with the Mopar Add-a-trunk, you have to drill holes in the bed, but not with the instatrunk.

Thanks everyone. I'll try again. I'm just too new to throw all caution to the wind. It's my weekend tank and my daily driver. I love having the top down every nice day (13 days straight and counting) but the Houston forecasters can't be trusted. I'm sure I'll get to where an inch of water on the floor is just an opportunity to use the drain holes and not a problem, however I do hope someone will answer in the positive and say, “Yes, I've got the uppers stored there right now!”

Alright, the weather cleared up and I tried putting the uppers behind the back seat first, then folding the top, but one of the bars hits the uppers so it won't fold down. I don't think it can be done. Found this in the pdf manual
"NOTE: Stow the half-door windows carefully outside of
the vehicle, never inside, to avoid scratches." Not happy.
Anyone made this work?

Went wheeling Saturday and just put them behind the drivers seat along with the 3 rear windows.... Now obviously that won't work with 4 people in the Jeep, but with 3 it was fine.

Hmmmm! Well, I have the Bestop Half Doors with Uppers. I removed my Rear Seat, placed my Uppers in a Mopar Window Bag, and hooked them to the back of my Front Seats. I have the Seat Cover Vests, that have loops and Velcro on the back. I just take a Bungee Cord, and hook the Mopar Bag to the loops on the back of the seats. This helps keep them from blowing around and flapping, with the wind coming in from the sides and rear, while the top is down.

Another thought... if you HAVE to keep the Rear Seat installed, see if this might work. Lay the Mopar Bag (Upper Window Bag) in the Rear Seat, then fold it up. See if the Rear Seat will fold up against the Front Seats, with the Window Bag sandwiched in the Folded Rear Seat. Might just work! This shouldn't cause any damage to your windows, since the Mopar Bag is Felt Lined. No promises, though. Try it out, and see if it might be a solution for you.

Best of Luck!

Cheers!

I received some help despite being beyond help The JK uppers are so thick, it's a very tight fit between the back seat of a 2-dr and the folded top, but here's how it's done for anyone else reading. I had my top in the smittybilt boot. I placed one upper in, right side up, with it's outside facing rearward. Then I pulled back on the boot and squeezed in the 2nd upper, right side up, with it's outside facing the front of the jeep so that the two outsides touched. It took some pushing/pulling/sliding of the base of the first one to get the angle just right for the second to slide down. The way the angles work out, and with the thickness of the molding/weatherstripping, the clear windows are kept away from the seat back and the soft top boot.
I don't think the boot is necessary, and I was told that the uppers can be positioned first and then the top down folded.
Thanks everyone!

storage jacket for element uppers

Blackbeard, can you confirm that the Bestop Highrock Element doors fit in the Mopar window storage bag? I have been looking for a way to protect my uppers while they are in the back. Plus I am worried about bending them out of position while they are just bouncing around back there. Bestop said their storage jacket will NOT accommodate the Element door windows. Thanks.

This thread is over a year old. Blackbeard hasn't been here in a while.
