I have a pair of pixel decal, flag decals. How do I know which side goes to the vehicle. I have two mirror image flags. I want to get them on properly. One side of each is marked with a marker. I'm not sure what it means, if anything.
Thanks!

If you mean which side sticks to the vehicle most come with a paper type side and a semi-clear side on which you can see the decal. You peal the paper off press to the surface then after pressing firmly to conform to the mounting surface you (usually) peal the semi-clear side off. leaving only the decal in place.
Post a pic of both sides of your sticker and we can see which type you have maybe.
This is exactly what I was asking.. I know which way to orient the flags. I just needed to know. Which side had the sticky. Must be the side with the solid paper on it, not the opaque/see-thru side. I'll give it a shot tomorrow.
Thanks.
Btw, I'm installing them with the stars leading on each side.
I believe the decals should be covered on both sides. What are they covered with on each side? Could you post a picture of each side? I've dealt with a number of decals and I don't think I've seen a decal that I couldn't figure out by looking at them.
I agree! Worse yet is when people leave their flags flying on their houses at night and not lit up. I saw this at a Post Office once and just had to complain because you'd think a government agency would know better.
Also just want to point out that not having the stars going in the direction of travel is not "wrong". It is not in the code anywhere. Just because the military does it on their uniforms and vehicles doesn't mean the other way is wrong.
I guess technically raider were both half right. One side of the vehicle(driver side) would have stars lead and the other side(passenger side) would have stripes lead.....by the code that is
The other part of it is the code doesn't address stickers/decals on a vehicle. It doesn't even say if it is authorized or not. Just like you're not supposed to print the flag on paper plates and stuff like that. You can't enforce something that isn't written.
True.... No part of the code states anything about vehicles. I'm considering a flag on the front quarter panel of a car "horizontally on a wall". Also I guess a monotone decal isn't actually an official flag.
Its not just a flag. The same as its not just a colored rag. Its a symbol and it stands for a lot of things. What it stands for is as varied as the people who look upon it. The one thing it isn't is "just" anything. Its the symbol that represents the United States and its people and it should be treated with respect by all of us. The written standards and the traditions behind how a flag should be flown should at least be followed or don't fly it.
Just my $0.02!!
I found a site with the code if anyone is interested. I quickly looked through it and I didn't see anything about the stars being to the right or left on a moving vehicle. So it's perfectly acceptable if someone wants to put a flag on their Jeep in such a manner that makes it look like they're backing away from a challenge.
On a more lighter note can anyone tell me where I can get a good pair of flag decals? I'm looking to get a nice set if anybody recommends a pair they have or such.

Pixeldecals.com makes high quality decals, but when I received them they are too long. It's like an extra wide flag and they need a little cut off the end.
It does not matter if it's on a vehicle or not. So your point that you keep repeating is lost. The Stars are always in front. The flag never retreats. Period.
That's your opinion. The US flag on military uniforms and vehicles I believe is a rather new thing still. I'm not aware of it being on any older (Desert Storm, Vietnam, WWII, etc) uniforms in an inverted fashion. While the vehicles usually had a single star, no? I could be wrong about that though. Anyone know when the first time an inverted flag appeared on a military uniform/vehicle? My guess is that they just need to update the code. My point isn't being lost simply because others are too hard headed to not accept it. Displaying a sticker not inverted on a civilian vehicle is not wrong. Deal with it. And with that I'll drop it. No point going on and on about it.
Many civilian agencies don't follow military doctrine. To many, the "backwards" flag looks unnatural because they don't ever display it in books or on a stage that way. It is always starts on the left. Once in motion, I understand the argument. It's a simple argument based on military practice. If it were a military flag, it would be open and shut. It's a country flag worn by our military groups. Other groups as well wear the flag to their uniform standards.
Honestly, I'm happier to see discussions like this than I am worried about who wins. It obviously means everyone cares!
Ok here's one for y'all.... I just got a flag from forever wave.com.. along with the roll bar sleeve.... I put it on the left side of my vehicle and was promptly but politely told I was displaying the flag incorrectly....... I thanked the guy and changed it to the right side of the vehicle........ now I knew about the lights at night..... the inclement weather..... and even the proper way to display the flag vertically..... never knew about the Proper side aspect...... Nice to know there are people who are nice enough to educate people like me
I have always found the thread of flying the US Flag on any kind of vehicle interesting.... Reason is, most people get most of it correct. There is nothing in the code about decals or stickers. Just info for an actual flying Flag (made of cloth or other material). This style is to be attached on a mast to the right front fender. See the Presidents limo.
Decals or stickers, theoretically can be on either side of the vehicle, as long as the Union is forward. Search pix for Air Force 1 and the space shuttle. If they can't get it right, who will?...
The intent of the flag with the stars forward is the basis of "pushing forward." Not surrendering, not going backwards, but pushing on. The stars forward shows that movement and is a symbol of progress.
I think the question has been answered, but if you are looking for something more definitive, AR 670-1 (Army Regulation) Wear and Appearance of Army Uniforms and Insignia, states:
...Flag cloth replica is worn so that the star field faces forward, or to the flag’s own right. When worn in this manner, the flag is facing to the observer’s right, and gives the effect of the flag flying in the breeze as the wearer moves forward...
The stars always face forward. Some people think that this is a backwards flag when shown on the right shoulder or on the right side. I've even been asked at car shows why my flag is backwards, "am I in distress". I kindly and calmly explain that distress is when the flag is upside down, and according to AR 670-1...
AR 670-1 doesn't apply to civilians. If someone wanted to put their flag decal stars to the left on their vehicle they would not be in the wrong, per the flag code, considering it doesn't address vinyl decals on vehicles.
You are correct, it does not apply to civilians. It does however give a frame of reference for how one could do it correctly. At the end of the day, it's your jeep, do whatever you want to it. I added this simply as a pointer to another definitive source as why one might do it this way.
