I want a stinger for my JK. I mainly want it for looks. Don't think I will ever do anything extreme enough to need it. I do want something that will last. I am looking at the Smittybilt SRC stinger $400. Also looking at KO stubby stinger $330. Any thoughts?
Any hidden cost with this one? Looks like it has everything you would need all in 1 low price. Look like it has a plate to mount the winch. Spot to mount the lights. On EBay. http://bit.ly/19JTNje
I just bought my Smittybilt XRC MOD bumper. Still need to buy the stinger for it, but the looks are very similar to the SRC. I chose MOD setup as you can build it in parts over time...have not installed it yet.
I started with the stubby and stinger, then added mid-width end caps for added protection. It's a strong bumper. The winch is recessed and sits lower inside the bumper which I love about it. Bad thing is that there is no fog lights unless you get the full length end caps. So, I put a 12 light led bar on. Works great. You can always swap out a bull bar with the stinger if you like. Great thing about the MOD.
Also note that they have two stingers for the xRC M.O.D. bumper setup. Smittybilt Part Numbers 76817 and 76827. They look almost identical, but the second one has the additional metal ribs welded between the bars and the base plate. If you search Amazon for "Smittybilt 76817" or "Smittybilt 76827" you will see both the stingers. The first one is cheaper [on Amazon] by about 50$....
Figured out a way to attach the pictures....so here they are.

I bought the LoD signature series stinger. While more expensive than some, it mounts the winch between the frame rails to leave the grill open. It also allowed me to retain the factory fog lights. It is solid and was easy to install.
can't mount lights on the stinger. my light bar wen above the winch "roller" . mounted to that. it is about a foot long. It hooked directly to the fog switch, but I kept getting a buzzing sound. Figured it was the factory wiring. Did a swicharoo and installed a light switch panel .

I installed my Smittybilt xRC M.O.D. Bumper center piece last evening and did not have to relocate the Vaccum Pump. The bumper has a cutout for it. I had to dis-mount it to take off the factory bumper though...could not get to the last nut without removing that.
I got the center from Summit Racing, there is a store near where I work so I got lucky there. I think they ship for free as well.
[EDIT] Summit does ship free for $99 orders or more. This one is being sold for #199 on both Amazon and Summit. Although, Summit has the wrong picture on their site. [/EDIT]
The stinger, I am probably going to get it from Amazon, they have a good price. Honestly, I have not searched a whole lot...
I also have the Smitty MOD stubby with a stinger. I also put in a winch and hooked up a couple of Hella driving lights to the winch roller and spliced them into the old wiring for the fog lights. It all looks good and works good. Everything was easy to install and I didn't have to resort to any redneck engineering to make things fit. However, when you bolt on the stubby, start all the bolts first and then tighten them. Otherwise, they won't line up with the holes. Had to do the same when bolting on the stinger.
Did you do the drilling on the cross member under the skid plate part of the stubby to screw in the bolts they provided? I have not done it yet, I don't like the idea of drilling holes in my brand new Jeep....but that might be needed, yes?
I did not. It's pretty damn sturdy without drilling into the cross member and it doesn't rattle. To be honest, I forgot all about that step and I haven't had any issues.
Awesome !! That's what I figured, it seems rock-solid without doing it and I did not think to do anything there. This bumper also made me realize how crappy the factory installed bumper is....However, I am thinking about squeezing in a solid piece of rubber or maybe some soft wood in that gap, so in case there is a direct impact on the skid plate on a trail off-road somewhere, it wont bend and damage the cross-member there. Just in case, you know...
The triangular loop that sticks out from the front bumper. In theory, its supposed to be used to stop a vehicle from flipping forward and busting the radiator. Sometimes, it'll even hold the vehicle in place but most times the vehicle flips on its side.
I will never use a stinger for its designed purpose but I'll get one just because i like the look of it!
