Whining noise from front end

Alright, I have a 2010 which i have only had for about two months. I have been fooling around with it and have used my four wheel drive, in pretty gentle situation, and have had no complaints or problems. I recently decided to start fooling around with my four wheel drive in certain situations, trying to figure out a little.

My problem is from the very first time that I put it into four wheel drive I hear a whining noise coming from my front end while the jeep is moving, even if my foot is not on the gas. Does anyone have any ideas as to what this could be, or has anyone had this problem before.

Go to Auto Zone and buy a Haynes Manual. Or something of that sort. Howling sound would be differential. Whining sound means it's the Transfer case. Most likely

I am sorry. I just read that. I have used in in four wheel just fine. The noise comes when I am using it in four wheel low.

make sure you're shifting into 4lo at slow speeds or stopped. usually 1-2mph does the trick. don't drive fast in 4lo either. it's designed for very slow use, 5mph or under. anything faster use 4hi.

sounds like maybe your gears are complaining just a little. your differentials might be a little low on oil, or you've possibly got water or dirty in them. simply pull off the fill plug, and stick your finger in the hole. if you touch oil you're good. if not, add a little bit.

if the oil was full, how'd it look? a little gray or clear is ok, you don't want it real dark or milky. if it looks this way you can drain out both axles and replace the oil with fresh stuff and see how it goes.

how many miles you got on the jeep?

Simple your wife is like mine either ask her to quit whineing or stay home. I suppose you could just ask her to sit in the back but the noise will just come from a different direction.

It's normal. The much lower gearing of 4 Lo makes a whining sound.

X2

Mine purrs! in low. In 6th, it'll go 20 to 25 without any complaints. Sometimes shifting out of low is a PITA if you are between obstacles with a lot of flat land.
