Traded in my yellow TJ yesterday for a white Rubicon Unlimited. One of the things I miss most already is my yellow Spiderweb Shade. Now I have a white Jeep, Should I get a White Shade? I know from Pictures that It would look sweet, and would be nice and cool from reflecting lots of heat, but it practice would that creat too much glare?
Has anyone tried it?
Thanks
I have a white jeep also and contemplated going white with my shade. As far as glare, its got to be better than not having a sunshade at all in my opinion so if you want white I say go for it!
I ended up going with red myself cuz I have red accents throughout my jeep and I figured it was a little darker also so it might cast a darker light inside and also not show dust/dirt as much. I still like white though and if I didnt have red accents I would have definitely gotten white.
I think white would look great on a white Jeep! You have all the black from the roll bars to break up the whiteness.
But, as WV hinted at, I would think about any accent colors you plan on doing, and consider matching your shade to that.
I have a white SS installed and there is no glare. It diffuses the light and keeps the interior bright and comfortable but none of it interferes with the view. And the "white" is more like an "off white" than "fresh snow white." Good luck!
I would only be concerned with how quickly it gets dirty looking, if at all. Only thing that has tarnished my black one is pollen, which blew off, and white bird crap which I had to clean off. But I suppose white would be much less prone to fading.
I went from a tan SWS on my Sahara Tan Jeep to a black one. I prefer the black one as it blends in with the roll bars and everything else. The tan kinds stuck out, the black looks more factory. It comes down to what you like.
Perfect timing on your Tan Sahara pic post. I have a 2016 JKU in Mojave Sand which appears to be darker than your Tan color. However your tan shade looks lighter in color. Did it fade or is it as close to original color when you bought it? I really like the look of it on your Jeep but I think the tan will be too light for my Sand color.
When I talked to the folks at Spider Webshade, they told me that black blocks the most sun/heat of all the colors. I would have thought it would have been white reflecting the heat while black would absorb it. Anyway, I went with a black shadecage on my black TJ and life was good.
When I bought my JK in Hydro Blue, I bought the blue webshade for it. I don't know if I'm just preloaded from my conversation with them or if the JK is just a hotter vehicle in the sun but I really feel much hotter in the JK under the blue mesh than I did in the TJ under black when I'm wheel'n.
David - That's a good thought but I don't think that it's re-radiation as much as admittance or pass-thru. If my blue mesh really is hotter than my black was (if it's not all in my mind) then I would surmise that the lighter color allows the light/heat to reflect off the inside of each square hole in the mesh and from there down into the vehicle and onto it's occupants. I say this because the blue shade not only seems hotter but also brighter under it than the black did. Or maybe the black mesh was made of a thicker fiber than the blue, so less light got thru.
Don't really know at this point but it's probably not an issue unless you live some where like 'The Valley of the Sun' like I do. If I still lived north of the Mason-Dixon line I would just be happy to be able to take the top off for three months, with or without mesh. As far north as you live is there enough sun to even worry about it?
Yea, I know you live across the eastern pond, hence my comment on 'way up north'. It doesn't rain in the UK - that's just a marketing thing to keep us Yankee tourists from coming over
I think of it more like this. You aren't wearing the shade like a shirt, where black would be hotter. Its more like window tint. Ever seen white window tint? Darker colors provide more shade. I've only ever been in jeeps with the black shade though. So I can't compare.
I wonder if a white one outside for looks and a black one inside would work?
