I've got a full size Fiskars axe in the back, and a Fiskars hatchet strapped to some Molle webbing (along with a folding GI shovel, ropes, etc.) on the tailgate.
I carry an ACE bow saw that I use to flush-cut the broken branches before I drive over a log so I don't spear a tire. And a chain for when the log is too big to drive over and needs to be dragged to the side.
17" Fiskars X11 (also available as Gerber Freescape). Light and small enough to attach to the rear roll bar, yet surprisingly efficient at splitting firewood.
I just put my wood handle ax that I have had for years on board. I already had a mattock , short shovel and an ax. I have noticed that many axes sold now days in home improvement stores do not feel right. They do not swing.
I like to keep at least three axes on hand...
for emergencies.
