Who's planning on buying a 2012?

First of all let me say, hello as I'm new to the forum and this is my first post.

I've often considered buying a Wrangler since a few of my buddies have them but have always hesitated since their biggest complaints were the underpowered engine. I think it does fine in certain situations but it also runs out of oomph pretty quickly when the pedal is put to the floor. Not that a Wrangler is built for racing but there are situations where that extra get up an go can be helpful or even necessary.

With the new engine being released in 2012 and the fact that my lease is up on my current vehicle in December of this year, I think I'm finally going to pull the trigger.

Anybody else plan on stepping into a 2012 Wrangler?

Sigh.

Welcome to the forum. Search the word "Pentastar" in this section. Should be enough reading material to keep you very, very busy.

It's a shame jz68 quit a day early, unless he created a new name. Where's Snowbucks?

Never get the under power comments. I don't think people really want a Jeep but rather a sports car. I have 33's and stomped it to the floor blowing around a slower driver with ease. I may not burn rubber but I have absolutely no problem getting my Jeep to get up and go. You want under power go buy a Kia because my Jeep isn't.

No cares about getting a 2012 Jeep. I let others test drive a new motor that has no chance of working out the bugs yet.

To me the only good thing about getting a 2012 is that with the new designs they are talking about I doubt any of the current aftermarket product will fit. You can't spend your money modding your Jeep if no one makes anything to fit it.

The engine is new to the Wrangler but will have 18 months in other vehicles so I'm fairly confident that there won't be problems. I'm more concerned with what transmission they'll drop in it. Will it be something with some miles on it or totally new?

the 2012 pentajesus engine will burn so much rubber you'll end up in china by the time you hit 3rd gear.....you'll be able to climb skyscrapers strictly based on the fact that your engine will weigh 2lbs., and you'll get better mileage than a prius. I won't end up in a 2012, and wish you luck if you do(it'll be nice, but once again it'll be critisized like all new models)

The only way I would buy another is if they finally offer a diesel. Until then I'll hold on to what I've got.

I'm waiting for the '12 P-Funk.

If the early impressions are terrible, I'll go find a used '10 or '11.

I don't follow things as closely as many of you do, has there been talk of a diesel? I'd probably opt for that myself.

I do believe that if it weren't for California's excessive crap, that the diesel would already be available.

I heard that diesel fuel contributes to global cooling. There is evidence right now. Walk outside. Its cold isnt it?

Do you want another ice age on your conscience? I dont!!!

I dunno...I've had some property damage from the dinosaur infestation in my area recently so a slight 'chill' could be a good thing.

I am going to be getting a 2012 unless they modify the body too much for my tastes or the transmission is brand new and hasn't been tested.

I am also secretly hoping they are going to up the warranty on the new models to increase sales. That way there is no risk if I lose the tranny under 100K miles.

If for some reason I don't like the 2012, I will by a 2011 off the lot for a nice finance deal I am sure.

The tranny is the biggest concern I have. I'm opting for the manual so I'm hoping what they install in that model will be something that can handle the low-end torque and not simply high RPMs ala something you'd see in a Fiat roadster.

I also wonder if the gearing will still be offered as 3.21 / 3.77 / 4.10.

It's not just the potential HP gains that interest me. The potential improved fuel economy (not the MAIN concern but a nice bonus) and the option to run E85 are also considered. I want it to be 'worthy' on the trails without the biggest fuel burn being the trip *to* the trails.

I am planning on getting the 2012 Jeep Rubicon in Black with all options as my 2009 Red Rock is paid for and I love the new interior and new warranty and my 5 new wheels and tires will swap over. I wish when I had ordered my 2009 I got the dual top, Infinity NAV and sub and leather and 4 wheel drive. The new interior and engine upgrade will be the icing on the cake. Why care if the new engine its unproven in a JK, engineers build engines with some pretty good technology helping them and if it has kinks or bugs after it ships..take it back to the dealer for warranty work. I have owned many brand new first year cars and Jeeps and rarely have i had to take it back to the dealer for warranty.

Yes unfortunately 2 wheel drive...ordered from Iraq Exchange New Car Sales and rep told me I really didn't need the 4 wheel drive for basic off road...Its a Jeep he said. I have had it in some small flat trails and mud but really struggled. See post who will get 2012. Gonna get Rubicon this time.

Damn thats a dagger. I can't believe they even make 2x4 wranglers. They should all come equipped with 4x4 IMO

I'm also new!

I do plan to replace my Rubicon in 2012. I'm hoping with the increased emphasis on mileage as well as the reported increased umph that I'll be happy I made the switch.
