why cant we have the RAM engine!

Just read that the new dodge ram has the pentastar 3.6 as well but there version gets 305hp and 407lb ft of torque! that is just crazy. I want that much torque.
that either means ours is really undertuned or they just really upped the compression in those things

okay after further digging, four wheeler magazine seems to have a mis print and put the hemi torque figure in there with the pentastar hp figure.

305 hp / 269 lb-ft (Petersen's 4Wheel & Off-Road (Aug 12)).

Still, where did the extra 20 hp come from? (I'd guess no real internal changes, so probably less restrictive breathing?)

Yup which is why I have maintained from day one with an intake, exhaust and a soon to be released chip (hopefully) the JK will put out close to 320 CRANK hp.

Well you can get just about anything you want as long as you have the cash. Here is a link to 4 Wheel Parts' Greg Adler which had a "Hemi" 6.1L stuffed in his. Of course he has plenty of Cash...

Hemis are not worth the money. As soon as they crack the rolling code, a turbo kit for the pentastar will run 6-8k and will outperform the hemi by a wide margin. On that note, so will a supercharged pentastar, just that a turbo will have more torque, much more power down low, all while improving fuel economy by 25%.

Does anyone know if this is something due to the physical configuration of the JK (less underhood room for intake or header pipe routing), an internal engine component(s), or just a tuning matter?

Well it's not a super huge increase so it's most likely a combination of the stuff you mentioned. Intake, exhaust and tune.
One thing the wrangler doesn't have is much room for exhaust so I'm sure that is a little bit of a factor

What about LS3 motor ? I've seen the youtube of a wrangler with an LS3 supercharged motor racing a Mitsucihi EVO. So I looked into that swap and theres a place in Las Vegas that does the conversions.
Didnt get a price yet though.
I'll guess its cheaper than the HEMI conversion (isnt that around $26k?)

I thought I read somewhere that the engineers who made the new engine said the internals wouldn't really suppost turbo's or superchargers like the old 3.8 and 4.0's would.

I had an ls3 in my 08 vette. What a great motor. Wow I couldnt even imagine that in a jeep

They did say that. The new engine is pretty amazing but it's pretty close to its full potential with the internals that it comes with. Chrysler did say they will be developing turbo models but I'm sure they will be purpose built internals with 8.5-1 compression and forged internals

The Wrangler might get a diesel and an 8-speed if they decide to share the GC's powertrain with it:

Per Autoblog regarding the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee....

"The biggest change for 2014 will be the availability of a 3.0-liter diesel V6, which we previewed just over one year ago. In the European Grand Cherokee, this engine produces 241 horsepower and 406 pound-feet of torque – seriously good power numbers for Jeep's stalwart utility vehicle.

Additionally, Automotive News reports that a ZF-sourced eight-speed automatic is on deck for 2014. Details are scarce right now, but this transmission will likely be paired with the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, just like in the 2013 Ram 1500 and the current Chrysler 300 and Dodge Charger."

I had the rare chance to speak with a guy Saturday that's involved in the testing for chip designs. I forgot what company he was with now. (I was sort of in a hurry to get out of desert rat and back home to finish bumpers). But he was in there showing them new product.

He said they aren't even close to cracking the code for the 2012's. They're not sure if they're gonna be able to do it. I was surprised to hear it. But that's what he said. And coming from a guy that makes his money selling performance chips, I doubt he was making it up.
