Why do some people say......

Why do some people say that 33" with new wheels and 4.5 backspacing, will fit JK's without a lift; and some people say they will not. This uncertainty has made my decision very difficult! As I have said on other threads, it would be great if I can get the 33" now, and the lift in a few months, due to cash flow. So, if someone can ease my mind with some solid info, it would be great!
I appreciate your responses, I just need some piece of mind that when i get my tires, I wont be shredding them....

you can run 35's on a JK with a 3.5" lift. 33's should fit with no problem and no lift. the JK comes higher than our tj's did.

If you need a 3.5" lift to run 35", you should need a 1.5" lift for 33"....or is my logic wrong?

The 33's will definitely fit. There might be a little rubbing when you completely turn the wheel until it stops. You only do that when turning in tight spaces. The backspacing alleviates that issue. Height wise they will fit fine. The issue is the stock wheels.

Is 4.25" backspacing sufficient to eliminate any rubbing with 12.5"? The procomps I want(98's) have only 4.25" backspacing.

I don't want to buy this setup up only to find out i have issues, tires and wheels are not returnable after mounting........

I appreciate your responses, I just need some piece of mind that when i get my tires, I wont be shredding them....

I am running 33x12.5 tires on 17x9 inch wheels with no lift and no rubbing issues. Mine is a 2010 Wrangler 2 door Sport with almost 6,000 miles on it. Tires and wheels have been on since day one.

With backspace wheels, will not rub at left/right turns but will rub offroad and bumps...
To be on the safe side, a BB will solve the problem and is not expensive either.

you see, this quote and the two previous post before it contradict each other. one says the turning of the wheel will rub, the other says it will rub in bumpy conditions....?
This is why i am confused.

In this one he is refering to regular driving and off road driving. Two different types of rubbing depending on what you are doing. On the road the rubbing comes from the control arms being rubbed when turning. Off road rubbing would occur from the articulation or flex of the front end and the tires would be rubbing into the wheel wells themselves.

If you are going to DD this Jeep then you are fine the way you are, if you are going to dual hat it and use it off road then go with the 2" budget boost and you should be fine. If you have the money then get a 3.5" coil spring lift and then you will be all set if you decide to go bigger later. It all depends on what you plan to do with it and how much cabbage you have to put into right now.

He's on the money. I ran stock Moab wheels with 11.5" wide 33's (actual measurement is 33.6") w/o a lift for a few months and the ONLY problem I had was rubbing on the sway bar on tight turns. This was fixed with spacers. I did some light wheeling (links connected) and I didn't notice any rub along fender flares, or pinch seams.
