Why less money?

A lot of you guys say that getting a tire with smaller rim size(15,16's) would be cheaper than getting (17,18's) But WHY? more rubber, less money? less rubber, more money? shouldn't it be the other way around..

There is a higher demand for 18 inch rims as more high end trucks come with 18's. Not many however come with 15's anymore so demand is low and supply is good

It's just supply and demand economics

Yeah but thts not how it works. Has something to do with selling more tires. I forget now. Darn me.

I think the price is based on quantity sold per size...the more the manufacturers make of one size the more efficient and cost effective. 15" and 16" are the most common 'stock' rims (or have been for years) so they sell for less. Like the price of potatoes...individually you spend over a buck a pound, 5# bag is about a buck a pound, but a bushel of them is about $15 or so...

This is correct. This has come up before, supply and demand.

Feast your eyes on this:

For 17" rim:
LT285/70R-17, Duratrac Tire by Goodyear

For 15" rim:
33x12.50R-15LT, Duratrac Tire by Goodyear

Who cares why? Take advantage.

It's not supply/demand. It's economy of scale. Larger volume, lower per unit cost. Period.

You're missing the part about them being different tires... The metric is a load range D, English is a load range C.
