I mean..I went with a friend today to look at an Unlimited since he liked ours we just got.
our invoice says the 3 piece hard top was $695 added to the invoice...we looked at a black one on the lot that they added the hardtop to, and on the little sticker beside the invoice in the window it stated '3 piece modular hard top-$3650'?!
plus $99 for a 'pinstripe' that ....well to me I didn't see any stripe on the vehicle. price of the vehicle went from $27k to $31k
the salesman said 'the hardtops are hard to find, let alone on a 4 door'....so they were justified
I always figured the hard tops were around $1500 but...mine was $695 like on the 'build your own' part of Jeep.com....and this one was $3650?!:zap:
The hard top cost the dealer about $2000 if it was truly added after the fact. They are just being greedy. In my area, hard tops are not that hard to find or locate.
Mostly, because they can! If somebody pays it, great, if not, they always have plenty of room to mark it down and still make a profit. MSRP = manufacturers SUGGESTED retail price, doesn't mean there isn't some goofball willing to pay that much!
I could see paying about 1500 for the dual group, but not that much for just the hard top. Go to another dealer or print the build your on page and tell them that's how much you'll pay.
iirc if your a triple A member they will order a new car for you for and you only have to pay $50 over the factory price (NOT the MSRP the price they buy it form the factoryfor!)
Chrysler employee standard is 750 under invoice......Im an employee and thats our deal.......it is not combinable with other incentives or rebates......sometimes its better ta take the incentive.......The invoice isnt what the dealer actually pays they still make money sellin me a vehicle cause of incentives paid to the dealer and discounts they get from Chrysler based on units purchased financing kickbacks etc.......g
idk maybe its $500 i cant remember but my dad was talking about it, b/c they wanted 17,000 for a 2001 sport adn on the lot they were selling a 2007 for 19,000 and he said that if you bought it from triple A you could probably get it for the same price as the 01, b/c you only pay a little over the factory thingy, i cant remember exactly but its worth it to go to the closest AAA brancha nd ask them!
I don't know what the dealer was talking about with the hardtops being hard to find. I work in the parking lot of a grocery store collecting carts and I would have to say AT LEAST 8 out of 10 JKs (2 and 4 door) I see in the parking lot have hardtops.
Additionally, when the JKs came out, it was about 3 months until I actually saw one with a soft top. Plus it was about 3 months till I even saw the 2 door. Furthermore, I have seen only one 4 door with the softtop, at work or anywhere else for that matter.
Finally, go on to the website. IIRC the hardtop is a standard "deletable" option. For grins and giggles I built a 2 door and had to uncheck the $945 hardtop.
We have three 4 door soft tops and one 2 door soft top on out lot right now.....we cant get a 4 door hardtop to save our lives.......and we have quite a few on order........g
Whether you can get a hard top right now is dependent on where you are located. Some zones have more than others. We just got a hard top 4 door in yesterday with 3 more supposed to come in next week.
Actually, most of my sales are for the soft tops anyway. I've had a couple hard tops, and a couple dual tops, but most are soft top only. People want to be able to go topless without all the pain of a hard top. Especially since the soft tops are so quiet anyway.
yeah i still swear by soft top and half doors. I want a new 2dr rubi with soft top and half doors.
