Will this work?

OK, I've read over the wheel and tire sticky and I think I have it but I want to make sure. Will this setup be any good.

I want to keep my stock 17 x 7.5 five spokes but add something a tad more meaty looking than my 255/75/17 street tires.

I'm thinking of: 285/70/17 with some 1.5" spacers. I have no lift but may eventually do a leveling kit. Will I have isssues?

I'm sure they will fit .. But I'm wondering if 285's are wise to get if you have a sport with probably 3.21 gear ratio .. I think 285's would be better if you had 3.73's IMO ..

Do you have to tow package? If you have the tow pkg it comes with 3.73. At any rate 285 is about a 33 so... 3.21 will work.. anything bigger then I would run new gears. I had 32's with 6 speed 3.21's and it was ok...penstar is beast.

I have an auto without the tow package. This jeep will see 90% around town driving and 10% muddy road fun time. Does that matter? Should I go down a size?

Imo if you go with the 285's it will be a little dogier. What size you have now?

I have a 2012 Sport JKU auto with the towing package/3:73's. I added 285's with spacers and had no problem at all. I recently did a 2.5 inch budget boost as well. I've had no problems with rubbing and the pentastar runs great.

Tow pkg don't necessarily mean 3.73 gears, "max" tow pkg does! But 285/70-17 will be just fine on your rig with 3.21 or 3.73. Spacers are a good idea so no running at full lock or articulation, and a leveling kit even better idea.
Bott line is 3.6 on the '12 and'13 can run a 285 just fine. Remember "this is your daddy's Charger motor, not your mommas caravan motor"

How much do you think the city gas mileage will suffer? Granted, if I was worried about mileage, I wouldn't have bought a jeep .

I'm getting 15 around town and 17 on the highway driving 25 miles back and forth to work. The best I've seen was 19 on the highway on a trip from San Antonio to Dallas. These numbers are with 3:73's, 33's, 2.5 inch lift., and the front air dam on. I drive 70-75 on the highway.
