Winch Advice

Hi all...I am looking to add a winch and new front and rear bumpers to my '09 Wrangler X. I am thinking about the Rockhard brand stubby bumpers for both ends, mainly because it was the best looking bumper with cut outs for the factory fog lights (in my opinion). I have not had a winch on any of my Wranglers and with the limited use I am thinking of a Smittybuilt 8000 lb job. Do you think that would be enough for infrequent use? I appreciate any advice and/or suggestions on new bumpers or winches. Thanks!

There's going to be a lot of people with different opinions about winches.
Here's my experience with the xrc8.
The three times I actually used it, it worked fine. Had good line speed, etc.
The powder coating flaked off and the roller fairlead rusted out in the 1 1/2 years it was on the front of my Jeep. Smitty sent me some pieces to replace the bad powdercoated pcs, but didn't include the pressed in bearings. So now it's apart and useless. Instead if spending another 300 on another one, I just ordered a Recon 10.5 with synthetic line. We'll see how this one holds up

Thanks! If the road salt is going to kill the powder coating that is a downer. I would like to know that even with its limited use it will be reliable and look good! Good luck with the Recon!

The US Army humm-v had the above type bumpers, when first used in combat, and found they needed to be replace ,by full front bumpers.

You will find that ALOT of jeep drivers prefer stubby bumpers not only because of the look but because of the increased approach. Quite a big difference in the humm-v and a jeep.

As for my opinion, I think the rock hard bumper looks pretty sweet...

Good looking bumper in my opinion. I went Rugged Ridge XHD modular. I can run full width or stubby

I think you made a great choice !! Thats the best looking stubby IMO. I like that the hoop is welded on ,not just bolted. It looks good with a winch or winchless until you get one.
