Winch Game

Ok, figured the bumper thing out.. on to winches.
I dont do enough off roading to warrent spending an arm a leg and half an ear lobe on a winch. However, I am a man of quality. I dont want to throw a piece of shit on there just to have one on there. Obviously WARN being theyre the best in the industry, but I cant warrent spending >$4-500 on something I simply wont use that often.

I know I want to get an winch w/ 1000-1100 lbs capasity.

Thus far, QTec and Smittibilt seem to be right up my ally.

Thoughts?

Pretty sure I got Mike's SuperWinch for right around that price from Quadratec, and it's a 10,000 lb winch.

SuperWinch has great tech support, too!

Look into the Engo's as well. I have basically the same criteria as you and that's what I went with. (Haven't installed it yet tho still waiting on my bumper).

I felt the same way when I went winch shopping. I ordered a Smittybilt because I thought I would not need to use it often. The thing about a winch is that when you need it to work, it better work! The cheaper the winch, the more likely you are to have a sealing problem or a gear issue when you need recovery the most.

I kept myself up at night thinking about this, and eventually I changed to a Warn Zeon winch. It's one of the best moves I have made. I spoke with Warn's support team about a few features on the winch and they are a wonderful, live staff based out of Oregon. I trust that this winch would pull me to the gates of hell and back if I asked it to. I read tons of testimonials where people's winches outlasted their rigs, even being transferred on to the new Jeep purchase when the time came.

The last big thing for me was knowing that the winch was going to be on the front of my Jeep all the time. It's one of the first things you see when you notice another Jeep. I wanted to be sure that mine said Warn.

Just think about it before you pull the trigger. I know Warn winches start a bit higher than others, but I am really happy that I made that choice. I hope you get something that is right for you, and I hope you feel the same way about it that I do mine!

I usually notice the person driving it....

I have an Engo 12k and no complaints.

WARN is elite though.. If you can obtain one do it.

But then again be honest with yourself. Could use the extra cash from a cheaper winch to buy other items.

Don't get a 1000 lb. Those are for ATV's. 9K at a minimum. I got a 9K ENGO just recently. I do not anticipate getting sucked in to my axles in sticky mud so I did not want to spend $1000 (ok I wanted to but could not justify it) on a WARN.

That being said, the Warn Powerplant is a beautiful piece of equipment. If I ever need to upgrade, I will bolt the ENGO onto my trailer & use it there. Or maybe onto the wall in the barn.

Or onto the rear of the jeep?

I'd worry about my power plant air compressor going under water if I had one. Unless you don't ford water yeah its awesome.

I think he meant 10,000-11,000lb. I don't think qtec or smitty make smaller than 8-9k
