I haven't gotten mine yet but according to the directions, the RC will install on the factory bumper without having to cut anything.

Yep! No cutting as long as you have factory towing hooks. This is exactly the set up I have. I ordered the plate directly from rough country on Wednesday, it was delivered Friday.

You do lose the tow hooks, so you may want to consider the clevis version.

By the clevis version did you mean the one that comes with D rings?

hints that may mke install easier

Shield fasteners - don't bother with the screw driver. Well sort of. Take a small wood screw and thread it into the Phillips recess, just a couple turns. Then pull on the screw and plastic pin with pliers.

Shields - remove the lower one completely. Replace when done. Upper is no longer used after the plate is installed.

Spacers - my bumper had spacers between the bumper and the frame.. I if you leave those in the plate holes don't line up. Ask me how I know!

Wiring - I waited to mount the relay box until the winch and plate assembly was on the bumper. This makes attaching the main ground cable and small black wire challenging. But I wouldn't do it any other way. You may want to loosen the black bolt on the bottom of the winch motor (A in the wiring diagram I think) before installing on the plate. Also the bolt is painted so a 14 mm wrench works better.

More wiring - running the wires through the grill will make it difficult to remove the grill later. I didn't do this but thought it would be good to consider.

Fairlead - the bolts with the winch won't fit. I got a set of 3/8 x 1 stainless bolts, lock nuts and washers from Ace.

Good luck.

All of this talk of installation is making me itch to get mine. The RC mounting plate is scheduled to be delivered on Wednesday. I'm not going to be able to tackle it for three weeks because of Scouting activities. Two volunteer weekends and an outing to destination....unknown (to the Scouts and most leaders). Then I'm going to get down to brass tacks on the install. I'm feeling like a kid in a candy store with the candy paid for but I can't take any out of the store.

Yup, that's happening tonight. Gotta tighten up those PITA bottom bolts on the brackets that hold the plate.

That looks great! Smittybilt plate right? I think I'll do the RC plate because 2010WranglerMountain said it was a bit difficult to install.

Man I love that winch p0rn though

Nope, its the Rough Country (RC). The abbreviations XRC and RCX are very similar though.

UPS just arrived with mine....geeesh....heavy......sixty pounds for the cross country winch plate. That makes the install approximately 150 lbs sitting on my bumper....a pretty hefty wench!

Now, to go and look at my p0rn in person.

I said cross country above, I meant Rough Country. I just got done spending some quality time with my winch plate and winch....shiver me timbers. I'm gonna start a thread on my install to cover it from beginning to end.

Have you looked at the pictures above? Mine is still sitting in the garage . I got back from my son's boy scout troop outing to New York too late to install it. But it looks just like kmccon's. This thread describes two different winch plates that mount on the stock bumper. The one on kmccon's bumper is the rough country stock bumper winch plate. It requires no modifications to the bumper except if you don't have the tow hooks installed and it only requires cutting the holes in the plastic that you would have if you were installing the tow hooks. The other one described above requires a small amount of cutting. That one is made by smittybuilt.

EDIT: Oops too late to read straight. You want comments on use not install. I will be humping some trees as soon as I can after it goes on.
