Does anyone know which winch will fit the factory bumper? I would like this to be my first mod, but not sure which will fit? Also wondering if anything else will be required, like mounting bracket, or upgrade to the factory battery? Also this will be my first winch purchase and wondering ifI should be going with synthetic or not? Most likely looking at Warn, like the Zeon 8000-s or the 9.5cti, but not sure?

Just took delivery of 10th anniversary two door. Went to dealer service department to see about getting winch installed (similar to one shown on Jeep website). Was told that in order to mount a winch, the bumper would have to be replaced. Jeep is aware of the fact that a winch cannot be mounted on the 10th anniversary bumper and is working on a fix. Anyone else have different info on mounting winch on factory bumber?

You sure about that? I'm pretty sure you just have to buy the winch mount kit for the bumper. It's like $250-$200 I think. I'll ask parts if I can remember tomorrow. The bumper is based off the MW3 & MOAB bumper & to mount a winch on those bumpers you just need the winch mount kit from Mopar. It's what they call a "winch capable" bumper, meaning if somethign is added to it, it's then capable of holding a winch. Where as a "winch ready" bumper is ready out of the box w/o additional pieces. I think your service dept. doesn't know what they are talking about & instead of asking someone to check they just want to sound all knowing. I hate those kind of people at dealerships, they give us a bad rap & I take my pride in working on my jeeps that I love.

Okay I have done a bit of research, and yes the bumper is winch capable, however needs a mounting plate. You can either have someone custom fit a mounting plate or wait for a production one to be made. Their is at least one company making these right now and I expect several other will be doing this in the future as well.

First, NO ONE (corporate) makes a winch plate/winch mount kit for the 10th ann JRUB. I have been in contact with every company in the US/AUS.

Even the Mopar version is not available, even though a part number exists. The problem is similar to last years's MW3 jeep-bumper.

Drop me a not if you want more data, but the only play right now is having a custom built plate/mount kit and you are 100% right on the offset. It's subtle, but it's there.

I don't know anything about their setup for the non 10a parts but if it is anything like the parts for the 10a I wouldn't be surprised if they are built to withstand just about anything. :punk:

LOL, hey Caveman I'm don't know how I even did that. I was moving your post over to this thread for others to see. Damn copy right laws!
No sweat JKUR19A. :D

I just got back from having that same setup installed and I couldn't be happier. The winch Maximus installed for me even included the red synthetic winch line. That setup is heavy duty! I helped them install the whole thing. It even included a wireless remote in addition to the wired one. The only thing that blew my mind a little was having to cut the opening in the bumper bigger to center the hause fairlead. Jeep designed the opening (way) off center. the kit included a fairlead centering plate, so it's all good. here are some pics. :thumb:

I could not find any info on the winch itself. What is it rated?

The winch is made by Moto Alliance and rebadged Maximus. it's rated at 10K for the first layer of line on the spool. we tested it out and the line speed is decent. it came with a 2 year warrenty and, supposedly, it's made in the U.S.A. although I couldn't find any proof of that.

Here is a link to the manufacturers web page. the 10K model isn't listed for sale, but there is a spec sheet.

There are two more attatchment points in the front using the same bolts as the bumper. these are attatched to the frame as well. I found the whole assembly to be very sturdy and secure. The winch plate itself was 1/4 inch thick (thicker than the frame tubing) steel plate welded and bent for strength. They tested the prototype with a load cell in place to ensure the security and robustness of the attatchment points. I questioned it as well while we were installing it. It's a small design firm near my house that designed and installed my winch plate and winch. The engineer that designed the whole set up installed it for me. :D

Does anyone know if the Maximus winch plate will work with Warn winches? I am thinking of getting the zeon 10S or the 8S. Also I predict that the 8s will be good to winch out myself and other fellow jeepers, but do I need a 10s to help larger rigs on a single line pull?

I've contacted Joe at Maximus and they will be installing all on my new Anvil 10th as soon as the parts come in.

Ive seen lots of people mention about the fairlead being not centered on the 10A Bumpers. But I looked at mine, and a friend of mine looked at it too, and neither of us could see the off center of the front bumper. That is we were looking where that plate comes out to make way for the winch.

What part exactly is off center?

I spoke with Joe over at Maximus-3 yesterday morning. He tells me that he's designing a trim piece to go behind the winch that covers up the vacuum pump. No word on cost yet, but he tells me it will be minimal. I mentioned that I didn't want to cut the original trim piece that was removed to make room for the winch. He took it upon himself to design a part to fit there. His design (the entire assembly) is extremly well thought out and very polished. I can't wait to see what he comes up with.

Joe installed the complete Maximus-3 kit yesterday and I am happy with it so far. Won't give it a real workout till I go wheeling next month.

35 MT/R's sitting in my garage right now waiting for my AEV beadlocks and 3 1/2" AEV lift.

I had to shorten the center post on the grill and remove the next two "clips" (one on each side of the center post) to get my grill on and off easily. The grill is still very well secured and does not vibrate, move or look any different after removing those "clips". I am really happy with the 10s and the Maximus-3 set up.

This is an email I received from Joe from Maximus concerning the Zeon Winch.

Basically the problem is once you bolt the winch to the winch plate it takes up all the space on the sides to be able to access the lower inner bumper bolts/nuts. So the idea is if you can leave the winch just sitting freely on the plate (not bolted down) and deal with the bumper bolts/nuts first and then come back to bolt the winch down to the plate. or may be bolt the bumper down and try drop in and bolt down the winch after.

The problem with this idea is that the front winch mounting points are right underneath the lip of the bumper - as shown in Image 1. There is not enough gap/space between the plate and the bumper lip to be able to reach in and put in the bolts and washers. Back bolts are no problem because they are accessible with an open wrench/spanner.

The only way to do this is to use a hole saw to drill out 1.25" (1-1/4") access holes in the bumper lip right where the front mounting points are - as shown in Images 2,3,4,5.

Hint: with the winch plate in place put the bumper back on just with one nut on each side and using a silver Sharpie marker (or similar) mark your pilot holes from top through the mounting points on the plate. Make sure you mark through the center mount points.
Alternatively mark the center line of the bumper and mark your pilot holes 73 MM (2-7/8") from the bumper face (front rounded edge) - symmetric distance between the holes is 10" (254 MM).

Once you have access holes now you can load your bolts and washers on a shallow socket head and tie down your winch. You can reach the back ones with your hand and an open wrench. Make sure you put some anti-rust paint on the holes you drilled.

I'm not sure but I think you can also leave your winch down untill you are done bolting the bumper and then carefully drop it in from the top. You will have to try it if that is possible at all.

If you don't want to drill access holes then there is no easy way. You have to just use a flexible/universal/wobble socket extensions and be ready for bloody knuckles.

I hope this helps.

Joe
