Question Wind Deflector on JK

Been thinking about having one they really affect gas mileage, in a negative way?

Nope. Mine has saved me from several rocks missing the windshield.

I went a different route and bought a mask/bra: Lebra 2 piece Front End Cover Black - Car Mask Bra - Fits - JEEP,WRANGLER,2007 thru 2010: Automotive

I install it before longer highway drives and any off-road activities. You can't see it too well in the photo below, but there's a deflector strip on it that stays popped up while the rest of it lies flat (although it's not quite as big as the permanent deflector you're talking about).

It has the added bonus of protecting the grille as well. I just take it off for normal, every-day driving because I don't want the paint to fade unevenly. And, I don't really care much for how it looks.

I've got a 'bug deflector' that came installed on mine. Don't know if it help mpg but it does seem to help with frontal air flow. And the lower half of the windshield is usually clear of rainwater at highway speed, probably a side effect of the wind flow. Haven't been in bug season yet.

I've seen studies of the rear mounted 'spoilers' on other kinds of rigs. They generally do not improve mpg, as they create a larger 'turbulence pocket' that is an aerodynamic drag.
