Window tint percentage

So I was thinking about getting the front windows tinted to match the rear and not sure of the percentage of the back. Has anybody had any luck with getting it to match. The law in VA is pretty stupid so I will be illegal but at least it would match.

I think around 30 something percent. it's not 20 something percent, I know.

When I purchased mine, it had the windows tinted and they were close to the back. That started peeling a year ago so I had them retinted. Told them to put the same back in but they said it would be darker than legal, so I told them to go legal. I can tell a difference and the legal here is 20 something percent. It's a little lighter than what I originally had.

Your tint shop should have a light meter, and be able to tell you what the tint level is... But I agree with PT, I think I remember reading somewhere that it's about 30%.

That is what I was thinking also somewhere around 30% . it's sucks in VA because on the front I think you can only go 50% ,but I have got tint shops to do it darker but I have to pay cash and no record of having it done

i had my fronts matched and didn't even ask the guy what percentage he used. d'oh!!

i have had pretty much every car i've ever owned tinted and it looks damn close to 20%.
20% is not very dark at all, 30% is almost not even there. most factory tint is 20% or so.

When I got my truck done to match the rear windows it was 15 and the Jeep looks pretty similar so I'd say at the lightest it's 20. Probably 15 though.

VA is 50% on the front and 35% in the rear. Shops will do more but they will make you pay cash and some will not give you a receipt.

Just as an FYI to those who travel through VA the tint law applies to any vehicle traveling through the state. I know of 3 people who lived in MD got tickets, hired lawyers, and lost.

I just got my front 2 windows tinted to match the back.

Yea, it's not legal. 15% matched the back tinted windows perfectly.

There is something you can do if you want illegal tint legally. Go to your doctor and say that in the mornings you get light migraines. He'll give you a note to send in to the state with a form (HERE is one for Florida, .pdf)

That form and $6.95 and my windows are legal

When you think about that it is kinda funny that somebody with sensitivity to light or skin sensitivity wouldn't have a jeep. But that is a damn good idea and I will have to go to my local urgent care place and get them to give me a doctors note

FYI in most states 35% is legal on the front passenger and driver side window. That said I have no idea what the stock tint is, just throwing that out there, not that you (or I) care.

I had my front windshield tinted. I got pulled over 3 days in a row on different roads by Florida Highway Patrol Officers. They all knew me being that Im a firefighter but they all told me the same thing. While they weren't giving me citations they all said that it was gonna be more of a hassle by getting pulled over constantly. After the 3rd time I went and had it removed.
