When I bought my 2012 Wrangler Unlimited the dealer told me to make sure and have glass insurance. Well, on my way home from work today a rock (or something hard) hit the windshield and put a three inch crack in it. I guess that is why we have insurance. But is seems wrong to replace a windshield on a jeep with only 8k on it.
My windshield has never been cracked? Iv only put about 3k miles on it myself but still...lol must be something about the angle of the windshield vs the rock so the chance of deflection is pretty low.
Sad to say but that straight up and down (almost) windshield will make you think about how you drive--or it should. Follow to close on a bad road=bad news.
Had my Tj's replaced last winter 130K at the time. My Jk so far so good ------I am beating on the coffee table (knock on wood)
Just had mine replaced this afternoon. I've got just over 28k mi. Got my first chip at 1300 mi. Had 2 other chips before this last hit caused a crack. I could live with the chips but the crack was spreading so had to be replaced.
Now, THIS is a JEEP thing for sure! With such an upright windshield, a rock impacts at nearly a 90 degree angle. Our YJ is pock marked - big chips, little chips. I buy the cheap windshield repair kits from Wally World and fix them as soon as I get them, before they spread. The '09 JK was no different. I fixed about 4 chips in that windshield in the year I had it. At 380 miles, the new one has yet to be chipped. But it will. And its not always someone else's vehicle tossing rocks. Some of the chips I've gotten have been from rocks chucked up into the air by the front tires that fall right into the windshield. You'll find that if you tailgate a lot, you get rewarded with more rock chips too. Been there....lesson learned.
That is awesome. I didn't know there was a DIY version. I'm paying $20 every 3 or 4 weeks to have mine fixed every time I get a rock thrown at me. Hopefully someone up here in Canada sells something like this. I do some checking.
hahaa Second Wind is right..it is a jeep thing
mine got cracked over the weekend I'm guessing because this morning i was leaving for school when i noticed mine was cracked too but its from the top to the bottom of the windshield):
I had called up Geico first thing when i got my Jeep to make sure Windshield is covered under Comprehensive. Interestingly it seems Geico has a free windshield repair service if you have coverage with them, if the crack is smaller than a dollar bill. Sounded good...I hope I don't have to use it soon though.
I have Geico also. I'm lucky I had my 09 for 3 months before a rock flew up and cracked the windshield. I called Geico and they came to my house and replaced my windshield two days later. With the angle of the windshield, I'm surprised it's only been replaced once LOL.
Called the insurance company this morning and they are going to replace it on Friday. Also I made sure to ask for dealer glass (OEM). They don't give it to you unless you ask :-/
I know this may be a Jeep nostalic look, but why hasn't Jeep considered to slighly angle the windshield to reduce the amount of chips, cracks etc, while improving aerodynamics for better gam mileage? (or have they?) A 2" tilt isn't extreme.
My windshield cracked at 200 miles. Once again at at 7000 miles not happy!!:banghead: Had a TJ for 10 years and never had to replace my windshield, only a small ding that was fixed the same day. Ugh..
I had my first one on the second day of owning it, and I have 3 now I think...under 4k. My city's solution to winter is to dump rocks on all the freeways

+1
I've been doing this for years...it's cheap, it's easy and you can fix cracks up to 4" long if you're careful and use enough epoxy at the right temperature. Cheaper than the extra insurance too.
Unreal..I know I live in Denver and drive to the mountains almost every weekend, but 2 cracked windshields on my 2013 Jeep Wrangler in 60 days? Glad the sales guy sold me 3 replacements for $299. I would never buy another Jeep without the coverage
I have multiple hits on our 2010. The first came just after I hit a deer with it at 1300 miles, a few weeks after I bought it. To date I think we have 3 hits. Had them all filled and they haven't cracked any further. Just bullseyes.
Just ask for the Mopar glass. They will not put it in for you unless you ask for it. My brother did it on his a while back. Same deductible and you get to keep your little jeep in the corner.
