Windshield Replacement - how much did you pay?

Little pebble hit my windshield and is now a 2 ft crack.

Safe lights quoting me 370 for a generic and 500 for original. Expensive no?

Get glass coverage. I've had my Jeep just over a year and am on my 4th windshield. Also, get the OEM, not the generic.

I was quoted similar prices: 479 OEM, 329 generic....no glass coverage available from my insurer, only comprehensive.

Check into getting an AAA membership. My membership gives me an endorsement to avoid having to pay the deductible. Granted that is on my glass coverage, which you don't have, but you could check it out. You never know.

$0 . I've had 2 done in the last 2 weeks. The 1st one got a chip in the center and I helped it along with a small ball peen hammer . The 2nd one was another free replacment as the 1st had a "clam shell" chip on one edge. I don't know that I pay any extra for the coverage but if I do its been well worth it over the years.

It is called "comprehensive coverage" and it covers stuff unrelated to collisions. branch hitting your windshield, rocks, etc. Tends to have very low deductible and saves your butt when you drive a "flat windshield" kinda vehicle.

Here in Canada I got 2 quotes:
Generic: $285 installed + tax
OEM: $310 installed + tax

I would have to pay an extra $118 per year for insurance to cover glass and Bring my deductible down to $250. So the first $250 I pay, and another $118 per year... I'm better off just paying for the windshield myself. I can change it once a year and still be ahead. I've only had to replace 1 windshield on my vehicles in 27 years of driving. I know the jeep might be more susceptible but highly doubt that it will be every 3 months.

In NJ and had it done by a private glass company. It was 373 for oem Mopar glass. It came out perfect, even the inspection decal was replaced perfectly. In NJ insurance companies are not required to replace glass at no cost. It all depends on what your comprehensive deductible is if you have that coverage.

I got a generic done for $183 installed. But I met the cute little girl who worked there outside of work and after some flirting found out two things.. 1) where she worked and that she could get me a deal on a windshield 2) that she was only 21 years old (to my 35) so I got my windshield.. took her to lunch and wished her well.. lol.

" I know the jeep might be more susceptible but highly doubt that it will be every 3 months."

Years ago I was enchanted by the VW Beetle. My job included lots of miles through the high desert SW Idaho area.

I had about 6 windshields the first year.....a couple from rocks, 3 from pheasants, and 1 from a deer.....

It also happens that around here, if you tell the windshield repair shop that you are paying out of pocket you will always get a better price than what is billed to the insurance Co.

I have 0 deductible glass. My windshield has taken like 20-30 direct rock hits and I still don't have a chip or crack. The windshield is already pretty pitted though, after just 1 year/20k.
