Wiring - Rear Camera - Trailer Hitch

Need Help. Bought a backup camera that needs 12v power. I have the MAX Tow option and I was wondering if anyone knew whether I could power the camera through that wiring harness or if I should just splice into the reverse lights.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

My backup cam came with instructions that told me to wire it to the reverse lights for power.

You can use the backup lights for power, the tow harness on a JK is only a 4 pin so it doesn't have a backup wire. On mine I installed the Lockpick, and it provides the power for the cam so that you can turn it on at any time and check on your trailer. Or watch the world go by on reverse

Use the reverse lights...

Better yet, if you purchased Lockpick, use the back-cam power source on the unit. Yes, you will have to run wire from the rear to the front, but it isn't that bad, and it does not involve any splicing. By using the Lockpick's output, you can turn the camera on anytime you want without the camera always being "on".

I guess I screwed up in buying the NAV TV one. It has a red plug and a yellow plug. Yellow is for video and I assume red is for power. Argghh.
