Wiring Uconnect Microphone from 130/430N to 730N

DISCLAIMER: this may or may not work for you. If you're not comfortable working with wiring, then I wouldn't do this. I don't know if you can mess tings up or not.

I upgraded my HU from a 130 to a 730N, this will also aply to the 430N to 730N.

The 130 comes with a separate UConnect module while the 730N has it in the HU. I now you can get a mopar uconnect microphone for the 730, but I wanted to keep the one that's already in the wrangler. It works well and looks good.

So I started working on a solution. Took some time, but in the end it's really simple to do.

Once you've gotten to the point where you've removed the old HU (I won't cover this, just find the install instructions for a 730N), you also need to pull off the panel for the A/Heat controls. Behind it is the UConnect module, which you can remove.

Uconnect has a cable harness that comes from above, plugs into it and then has a piece that comes out and goes to the HU (for the mic). By now you've unplugged the mic from the HU, unplug this cable from UConnect and from the Jeep itself (up behind where the U was and to the left).

Here are what the ends of the harness look like (please note I've already removed some cables at this point, but you can tell which is which)

On the last picture (the end that has Orange on it) you can see there are 2 grey cables coming out of one spot, 2 green cables with blue lines coming out of another, and 1 green cable with a yellow line coming out of a third. These are the cables for the mic. You don't need to remove them

Follow them to the other end (picture 1 above). Pry the little white plastic piece up. It only comes up about 1/4". And then pull the cables out with the metal end still on them. There are 5 cables to remove, 2 grey, 2 green/blue, 1 green/yellow

Then go to the mic end (picture 2) and do the same thing removing all the cables. Take the 5 cables you removed above and attach them to the mic piece in this pattern:

With the retaining clip down the grey ones go next to each other in the top row, but skip the first hole from the left. So holes 2 and 3. The green/blue go next to each other on the bottom row starting with the first hole on the left. Then skip a hole and insert the green/yellow.

You can do whatever kind of cleanup of unused cable that you like. That's up to you.

Once you're ready plug the Orange ended one (the one that goes back behind the HU back in, and the microphone one (the one you added the five wires to) into the HU. Do NOT plug the other one (the widest one) back into the UConnect module.

Now, for USB, that too is connected to the uconnect module. I haven't figure out yet if that cord has any slack, but I'm probably just going to use a USB extension cord to get it to the HU

ND, could you tell me where the stock microphone is located? I've got the 730N, but we get a lot of complaints from people that they can barely hear us when using the uConnect. It would help to know where to shout at....

With the 130 (and I'm assuming it's the same on all of them) it's in the driver's side A pillar. Upper left, next to the visor.

I hate to ask a dumb question but I don't see it covered anywhere... Do you get Nav when you upgrade to 730N. Seems like there'd be a missing GPS antenna connection on a 130 equipped vehicle...

You get Nav. The antenna for satellite radio is a dual GPS/Sat Radio antenna. Nothing else needed.

I did the same and installed the 730 to replace my 130. Mine though didn't have Uconnect installed previously so good thing it has it built into the HU.
I have to install the mic though still so maybe I will post in here after I do that.

As for the Satellite i had to purchase the antenna and install it.
Now the proper installation from factory is into the roll bar in the center. No chance I was going to all of that trouble so I installed it into the dash right at the front and behind the HU.

The Antennas are calibrated to be in a certain position and since the new one is combine it makes it more sensitive to placement.
The GPS/Sat antenna is pretty simple to get to, it's on top of the metal roll bar over the passenger's seat under the roll bar zipper covers.
If anybody wants to know where a Microphone picks up best and install can be a flush install with about a 1/4" hole or less.
First place i installed it, drove interstate doing 80, top off, doors off and Music cranked.....she heard me first time no problem.....

Oh yeah.....I have a deep country accent and she still heard perfectly....LOL

What i meant to say was take a pic. I am posting from my phone and it really has a mind of it's own sometimes especially if i don't proof read.

1/4" hole between the right side of the speedo, between the Radio and speedo, The center Dash with Radio and HVAC area comes out further then the left or right side of Dash area so that blocks the wind from blowing into the mic.

Just finished this today. It worked awesome. I have all the functionality I had before with the mic and I just need to buy the USB extender on the web somewhere. Ndrugby you are a genius. For anyone else who may do this, it's not that hard.

Sorry to hijack, but I didn't realize my RHR had 2 USB jacks. Can you add a second cable to it for another USB jack? That would make 3 total on it.

Mine is a 730n RHR. I bought mine used on eBay and it came with an extra harness for cameras and additional audio and video inputs. I am not using them at the moment. May add a camera later though.

No lockpick. Just additional harness. I thought it was weird too. Wish I had a LockPick.

Yeah lockPick is great to have. So you mean Harnesses that would be in the vehicle if those options were already installed, say like rear Video etc. Those harnesses would connect to the extra devices if you added them. You can find the extras on ebay from sellers of wrecked vehicles etc...most of which usually have to be programed to work, as the Lock Pick lets you add non Factory and design your setup more freely...

I did this today in half an hour and it worked perfect. A couple of things I came across, the extension cable for the USB is impossible to find. Get it of the internet before you open everything up. Also, On my 2013 harness, I had 2 green/yellow wires. i used a multi-meter to find the one that was common with the original microphone green/yellow, then used the other one. Again, Ndrugby you are a genius.

I may need this tutorial as I'm likely going to embark on the 130n upgrade to the 730n and want to keep the mic i have from the connectivity package. Some seem to have said this swap is completely plug and play for 2013's but I have no idea what to believe yet.
