You cought it before I did the edit with the toughness/durability part. Besides I have a feeling everything but my tranny could hold up to a 6.2 better then the parts on a Raptor could.

I have seen guys that had the bed split from general offroading, not jumping anything. (I know the video you are talking about, that tard did a lot more damage than just bending the frame a bit.)

^This sums it up.

For a lot of people, a Raptor would be the better off roader because it feels smoother, you can go fast, jumps, blah blah blah that's all great but for the small amount of people who want to go where no one can go, for people who want to be able to take full adventures and not just a "day of off roading" in their vehicle, nothing will touch a Wrangler. Sure we dont come stock with as much height or tire size, but the durability, flexibility, freedom, ruggedness, and the off road geometry of the Wrangler keeps me from even thinking about another off roader. Raptors have the luxury of Fox Shocks and BFGs A/Ts, which is great, but remember that nothing the Raptor offers will make it able to get into the places that a stock wrangler can go... So I guess the question comes back to you.. do you want a fun, easy to use, cool looking off roader, or a vehicle that will take you places that you didn't even know existed?

I'd do it! Then sell the raptor and buy 2 brand new JK's!! C'mon, let's trade.

If I bought a Raptor, and wanted it to go fast I'd have to put a ZZ572 in it.

Add me to the "Raptors look like shhhhh" category. Those things are fugly! As far as them being "unique," aren't they essentially just another "fast truck?" Like the ford lightning? And didnt Chevy put out an S-10 with a 454 in it back in the 90s? And the SRT Rams. I feel like "fast truck" is as tired a concept as "fast SUV."

bottom line imo: If you want to go fast, buy a sports car. If you want to go off road, buy a jeep. If you want something that is less speed-capable than a sports car and less off-road capable than a jeep, buy a raptor.

I don't think you can take the top off (well...once). You might can take the doors off, but not easily. I don't think there's as much stuff you can do to mod it as a Jeep. Even if you could, it still looks like a truck. I like trucks...just not as much as a Jeep.

Sorry. I like driving naked. I'm on my third Jeep. If anything, my next vehicle will be going back to a TJ.

As my Jeep sits right now, yes. If I had the funds/won the lotto to throw unlimited money (60s, ORE Double Throwdown, LS swap, etc) at the Jeep, I'd stick with the Jeep.

Not a real Raptor (full blown baja truck with Raptor skin) but this would be pretty close to the above mention modded Jeep.

No it wasn't.

The design allowed for a stress riser on the frame which folded under what the advertised its use for...
It has been fixed....and no longer an issue...

Got a couple buddies with them and an original one that folded then fixed...ford was good about it..

If I'm not mistaken the Raptor is built, advertised and sold around the premise of Pre-Runner type vehicles (you know, with the long travel suspension and flared fenders and all). Can't necessarily call someone an idiot for attempting what they were led to believe their truck was capable of. If you can't run it like that you might as well save the money and get a regular F150 4x4.

I would guess it was right between impact and airbag deployment. Up to that point, he might have thought he was just going to bouce a bit and drive around to hear the applause.

Do what I did...marry a lady that owns a Raptor! I love both vehicles, but they sure are different! And I feel so good now about the mileage my Wrangler gets! I love my Jeep, can go anywhere, don't feel bad about messing it up. The Raptor goes on long trips, heated/cooled seats and every other gadget you can cram into a vehicle.

"idiot" was being really nice. They also advertise STI's showing professionals countersteering 90mph around a corner that most mortals couldn't manage at 40mph. Is someone who thinks they are a rally racer just bc they plunked down a bunch of cash at the Subaru dealership an idiot? YES. All these vehicles (raptor, mustang, etc) are WAY more capable then the people driving them, unless your name is Jimmie Johnson. I know I know, I can't stand that guy either. Go JR.

It's called Marketing (and it works). You are supposed to go to home depot and put some mulch in the back of your raptor...while feeling superior to the other F150's in the parking lot. That's it

If the Raptor had a manual transmission, I would have considered it.

It would have still lost out to the Jeep, but I would have at least considered it.

So how do you explain that to your insurance? So what had happened was- there was this turtle on the highway, i swerved to avoid it and ended up driving into a green pipe that warped me to an off road park. I then found myself in mid air after being launched off of a ramp, while in the air, i saw the princess on a cloud, then BOOOM... I was sitting in my truck snacking on an air bag.

If they would make a regular cab Raptor I'd have one in my garage instead of my JK.....

yes, if it looked exactly like my commando green jkur except already had an AEV 2.5" lift and 315 Duratracs on level 8 trackers...yes, I'd trade it in a second.

Insurance Agent: I'm not sure we will cover this...it looks as though it was jumped about 90 feet.

Idiot (spoken in garbled lisping English bc most of his teeth were knocked out in the "jump"): Yeah, that's what they show on the brochure at the dealer so whatever...and it was 92 feet for the record.

Insurance Agent: Sir, your claim is denied.

Idiot: Well what about my Jeep claim.

Insurance Agent: Sir, we already discussed that. Your insurance doesn't cover the emergency evacuation to unwedge you and your wrangler from the rubicon trail.

Idiot: But it says 'rubicon' right there on mu hood...

If you look around you can find dealers that are willing to sell them at invoice. I had a 2013 ordered. I was able to get it for $500 under invoice with every available option. I backed out of the order, glad I did because I realized I'd rather have a JKUR.

I totally agree the dealer markups are nuts. My Dad was so bent about the $5k mark up on the only school bus yellow 13 boss 302 he could find in the midwest, so he drove to D.C. to buy the identical car as he had looked at in Chicago. He then took the boss purchased in D.C. back to the dealer in Chicago and showed them what could have been. 6 months later the Chicago dealer still had the yellow boss.

I wheeled with two Raptors in Moab last spring, they are really not designed as rock crawlers but did an amazing job. They did Hells Gate and Escalator without even straining along with some pretty tall ledges. I really enjoy my JKR but if I had to DD my JK, it would be traded for a Raptor, today.

I will order a new company vehicle for my DD next month, I'm considering the Raptor as I currently drive a crew cab Silverado. I think the Raptor will look great towing my JK to the mountains.

I like Raptors.

When I drive past the Starbucks over in town on my way to work, I see one coming out of the drive-thru from time to time.

But, I don't need one or particularly want one. I will probably buy a 3500 or 350 in a few years though. If I need a truck, of course.
