Came out of my band gig last night to load my guitar in the jeep and did the customary "walk around" to see if anything was amiss (soft top, ya know?)
I noticed this new dent in my tailgate on the upper right hand corner...WTF?
There was a broken bottle in the parking lot nearby and I figured someone leaving just smashed it on my Jeep for $heets and giggles...
Well I was kinda bummed at the thought of this "assumed" act of vandalism...I just drove home disgusted.
This morning ion the light of day I went out to inspect the dent more, closely and check for other damage...I noticed that corner of the tailgate was closed OVER the edge of the bottom of the soft top's lower edge. Damn!
That is what caused the corner of the tailgate to buckle outward slightly, creating a dimple in the metal!!
The freaking, soft top is harder than the tailgate!!
I am glad it wasn't vandalism, but not too happy with the quality/strength of my tailgate!
I'll have to see if I can coax that corner back to its original state with a rubber mallet or something....sheesh! Now I have to be careful how I close the damned tailgate to make sure it doesn't close over the edge of the top!
Just another testament to the little Jeepy things that make us go "hmmmm..."
